Abstract

Denna studie syftar till att undersöka om för- och grundskolegårdar i Uppsala kommun kan gestaltas med hänsyn tagen till biologisk mångfald. Studien är baserad på bakgrundsstudie av litteratur kopplad till biologisk mångfald och skolgårdar, samt semistrukturerade intervjuer med landskapsarkitekter och ekologer. Arbetet utgår ifrån Uppsala kommuns riktlinjer för hur för- och grundskolegårdar ska utformas.

I studiens resultat presenteras sedan gestaltningsprinciper som utgår ifrån en analys av intervjuerna. Gestaltningsprinciperna föreslås användas som komplement till kommunens riktlinjer och visualiseras i fem illustrationer för att läsaren ska få en tydligare bild av hur de skulle kunna implementeras. Av studiens resultat kan slutsatsen dras att skolgårdar är väl lämpade att nyttja för att främja den biologiska mångfalden.

This paper examines whether it is possible to design preschool yards and elementary schoolyards in the urban area of Uppsala, Sweden, whilst taking biodiversity into consideration. The study draws from literature in the fields of biodiversity and school yards. Furthermore, semi structured interviews are conducted with landscape architects and ecologists. The essay is based on the framework of Uppsala municipality’s guidelines for designing schoolyards.

The study presents principles of how such yards can be designed when taking biodiversity into consideration. These principles are suggested to serve as a complement to the municipality’s guidelines. The principles are visualized in five illustrations in order to make them more comprehensible. The results indicate that schoolyards are a suitable space for enhancing biodiversity in urban areas.
