Abstract

I denna uppsats utforskas Revingefältet genom kamerans lins, och med fotografier som
producerats under 1900-talet. Syftet är att undersöka hur fotografiska representationer
påverkar bilden av ett landskap, samt hur kameran fungerar som ett verktyg för att inleda en
dialog med landskapet. Målet är en fotoessä som skildrar hur Revingefältet representeras i
fotografier, samt vad en fotografisk undersökning i kombination av en landskapsobservation
kan bidra till för upptäckter i landskapet, för att på så vis nyansera representationerna av det.
Med en diskursiv analysmetod, undersöks de bakomliggande intressen som motiverat de
tidigare fotograferingarna på Revingefältet, liksom vad dess fotografier kan förmedla. För att
lära känna landskapet närmre utförs en deltagande observation vid den övergivna gården
Svarta Hål, samt intervjuer. Slutligen utförs en egen fotograferande undersökning av Svarta
Hål, med inspiration av boken The Eye is a Door (2014) av fotografen och
landskapsarkitekturprofessor Anne Whiston Spirn.
I resultaten framkommer det hur bilden av Revingefältets landskap påverkats av de militära
aktiviteterna, och att en stor del av det dokumentationsmaterial som finns att tillgå bekräftar
den bilden. Detta diskuteras utifrån hur fotografiet betraktas som ett validerande av en
materiell verklighet, snarare än en representation och tolkning av den. Av diskussionen
framkommer det hur landskapsarkitekten med fotografering som metod, kan bidra till en mer
nyanserad bild av Revingefältet.

In this essay we explore the Revinge field through the camera lens, using photography
produced during the 1900s. The purpose is to investigate how photographic representations
affect the image of a landscape and how the camera can be used as a tool to create a dialogue
with the landscape. The goal is a photo essay that shows how the Revinge field is represented
in photography and what a photographic investigation in combination with an observation of
the landscape can contribute to new representations of it. Using a discursive method, the
underlying interests that have motivated the photography of Revinge field are investigated.
To further know the landscape, the abandoned farm ”Svarta Hål” is visited, and the local
inhabitants are interviewed. Finally, a photographic investigation of ”Svarta Hål” is
undertaken with inspiration from the book ”The Eye is a Door”, by Anne Whiston Spirn.
In the results, we see how the image of Revinge field is affected by the military activities and
a large Part of the documentation available confirms the military image. This is discussed
from the idea that photography is viewed as a validation of reality, rather than a
representation of it. From the discussion, we see how a landscape architect can by using
photography create a nuanced image of Revinge field.
