Abstract

Från industrialismens framväxt till idag har industrins roll i staden haft olika
betydelse och värde. Från funktionalismens zoneringsprinciper, till dagens idé om
återindustrialisering och funktionsintegrering. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att
sätta samspelet mellan industri och stad i fokus, att undersöka vad en kommuns olika
intressenter kan tjäna på att utveckla ett integrerat och aktivt industriområde mitt i
staden, samt att utarbeta hur en sådan utveckling skulle kunna se ut.
Studien utgår ifrån Markaryds västra industriområde, som är centralt belägen
i tätorten. De mest framträdande möjligheterna med en tätortsnära industri,
som vi funnit genom studier i Markaryd, är för det första att minska behovet av
arbetspendling genom att kunna bo och leva nära sin arbetsplats. För det andra att
kommunens identitet påverkas av att företagskulturen och den ekonomiska kärnan
visas upp och blir en del av stadsstrukturen. Den mest framträdande problematiken vi
har funnit är den barriäreffekt som skapats i form av otrygga gaturum med dess tunga
trafik, samt otrygghet under dygnets mörka timmar.
Problembilden sammanfattas i ett åtgärdsprogram där områdets utvecklingspotential
belyses och där förslag på åtgärder beskrivs. Utifrån åtgärdsprogrammet så valdes
kopplingen mellan stationen och industriområdet ut som en viktig plats för vidare
utveckling varpå ett gestaltningsförslag togs fram. Gestaltningens översiktliga idé är
att skapa en entrékänsla till industriområdet och ett sammankopplande stråk mellan
centrum, stationen och industrin.
Genom de föreslagna åtgärderna och gestaltningsförslaget så ser vi att problembilden
kan mildras och möjligheterna blomstra, vilket ger potential till att det är många
parter som kan tjäna på att Västra industriområdet ligger centralt i tätorten och är väl
integrerat och tillgängligt. Framförallt är det den starka företagskulturen i kommunen
som medför att möjligheterna är starka. Slutligen diskuteras huruvida de föreslagna
åtgärderna kommer att få den slagkraft och effekt som vi eftersträvar och presenterat.

From the rise of the industrial revolution until today, the role of the industry in the
city has retained different meanings and values. From the zoning principles of the
functionalism era, to the current idea of re-industrialization and function integration.
The purpose of this thesis is to set the interplay between industry and city in focus, to
investigate what a municipality’s various stakeholders can gain from developing one
integrated and active industrial area in the city, as well as to delve into what such a
development could look like.
The study is based on Markaryds’ western industrial area, which is located very central
in the urban area. The most prominent possibilities with an industry that is integrated
with the city, which we have found through studies in Markaryd, is firstly to reduce the
need for commuting by being able to live and work close to the workplace. Secondly, the
municipality’s identity is affected by the corporate culture and the economic core being
displayed and that way becomes a part of the city structure. The most prominent problem
we have found is the barrier effect created by the heavy trafficked streets and unsafe
thoroughfares, as well as the perceived insecurity during the dark hours.
The problems are summarized in an action program where the area’s development
potential is highlighted, and where proposals for actions are described. Based on the
action program, the connection between the station and the industrial area was chosen
as an important place for further development, whereupon we have produced a design
proposal. The general idea of the design proposal is to create an entrance feeling the
industrial area and an interconnecting passage between the centrum, the station and the
industrial area.
Through the proposed actions and the design proposal, it is possible to see that the
problems can mitigate and the opportunities flourish, which gives potential for many
agents to benefit from the fact that the Western industrial area is centrally located in
the urban area and is well integrated and available in the city. Above all, we believe that
it’s the strong corporate culture in the municipality that creates the steady and durable
opportunities. Finally, we discussed whether the proposed actions would receive the
impact and effect that we have planned and strive for.
