Abstract

Varför behövs serviceställen på landsbygden? I denna uppsats undersöks den
sociala och kulturella funktion som olika sorters serviceställen fyller som mötesplats
på orten Sparreholm. För att analysera dessa funktioner har jag dels använt mig av
Jürgen Habermas begrepp livsvärld, dels Pierre Bourdieus uppdelning av den
offentliga sfären i olika sociala fält samt hans begrepp kopplade till hur aktörer inom
dessa strävar efter olika symboliska tillgångar. Uppsatsen bygger på etnografiskt
fältarbete på och vid olika serviceinrättningar i Sparreholm: såsom skola, kiosk,
lanthandel och ullspinneri. Studien bygger på både etnografiska observationer och
intervjuer. De lokala serviceinrättningarna i Sparreholm bidrar till att invånarna möts
och utbyter tankar och idéer. Interaktionerna bidrar till att skapa och förstärka sociala
nätverk på platsen samt till att skapa en känsla av en gemensam identitet,
samhörighet och social tillit som Sparreholmsinvånare. Genom verksamheten och
interaktionen på hembygdsgården och spinnhuset konstrueras successivt en
gemensam berättelse om ortens ursprung och vad som gör den speciell. Med andra
ord bidrar dessa möten, interaktioner och berättelser till att forma sparreholmarnas
livsvärld och deras identitet som sparreholmare.

Why are rural service points establishments needed? In this essay, the social and
cultural function that different types of service establishments fulfill as a meeting
place in the town of Sparreholm is examined. To analyze these functions, I have
drawn on Jürgen Habermas’ concept of life world, as well as Pierre Bourdieu´s
division of the public sphere into different social fields and his approach to how
actors within these fields strive for different social, cultural and symbolic assets. The
essay is based on ethnographic fieldwork at various service facilities in Sparreholm:
such as a school, a kiosk, a grocery store and a wool spinning mill. The study is
based on both ethnographic observations and interviews. The local service facilities
in Sparreholm contribute to make the residents meet and exchang thoughts and ideas.
The interactions contribute to creating and strengthening social networks at the site
and to create a sense of a common identity as Sparreholm residents, belonging and
social trust. . Through the activities and interaction at the homestead and spinning
house, a common story is gradually constructed about the origin of the community
and what makes it special. In other words, these encounters, interactions and stories
contribute to shape the life-world of sparreholm residents and their identity as
sparreholm people.
