Abstract

Den här uppsatsen undersöker barns och äldres behov av utemiljöer och huruvida en gemensam utemiljö kan uppfylla båda gruppers behov. I uppsatsen undersöks och presenteras egenskaper i miljön som barn gynnas av i sin lek och utveckling. De egenskaper som barn främst har behov av beskrivs som en miljö som uppmuntrar till kreativitet, eget platsskapande, möjlighet att konstruera och förändra saker i miljön, tillgång till lösa föremål, en stor variationsrikedom, en naturlig miljö som stimulerar den fysiska utvecklingen och en balans mellan trygghet och utmaning i leken. I uppsatsen undersöks och presenteras också de egenskaper hos miljön som gynnar äldre människor. De egenskaper som äldre främst har behov av beskrivs som tillgänglighet till utemiljön, en stor variationsrikedom med liv och rörelse, möjlighet till både sociala interaktioner och avskildhet, motion samt associationer till miljön som väcker minnen, tankar och känslor. Barn och äldre har både likheter och olikheter i sina behov av utemiljön och för att dessa behov ska kunna tillgodoses för båda grupper kan det krävas en del kompromisser, kommunikation och samarbete.

This essay examines the needs of children and the elderly for outdoor environments and whether a common outdoor environment can meet the needs of both groups. The essay examines and presents characteristics in the environment that children benefit from in their play and their development. The traits that children primarily need are described as an environment that encourages creativity, creation of their own places, the ability to construct and change things in the environment, access to loose objects, a large variety in the nature, a natural environment that stimulates physical development and a balance between security and challenge in the play. The essay also examines and presents the characteristics of the environment that elderly people benefit from. The qualities that the elderly need the most are described as accessibility to the outdoor environment, a variety of people and movements in the surrounding areas, the opportunity for both social interactions and seclusion, exercise and associations with the environment that awaken memories, thoughts and emotions. Children and the elderly have both similarities and differences in their needs for the outdoor environment and in order to meet these needs for both groups, some compromise, communication and cooperation may be required.
