Abstract

Tillfällig landskapsarkitektur används på flera håll för att förändra användningen av platser och för att testa nya, mer experimentella lösningar i det offentliga rummet. Det ger även möjligheten att förändra det offentliga rummet efter behov som växlar med årstiderna. Syftet med uppsatsen var att undersöka hur tillfällig landskapsarkitektur kunde bidra till ett livfullare stadsliv i en utemiljö som upplevdes som otrygg och ofunktionell för fotgängare, samt att undersöka hur detta kunde öppna upp för nya uppfattningar om hur stadens offentliga ytor kan användas. I uppsatsen redogörs för användandet av tillfällig landskapsarkitektur och andra tillfälliga evenemang och exempel ges på hur man kan arbeta med temporära gestaltningar och kultur i det offentliga rummet. Arbetet hade även ett socialt perspektiv med avstamp i Jan Gehls bok Cities for people med teorier om hur människor använder staden. Utifrån detta analyserades och gestaltades ett område i Gottsunda centrum, en stadsdel i Uppsala. Gestaltningens fokus låg på att skapa bättre vistelseytor och öka livfullheten på platsen som ett sätt att motverka de problem som finns i området. Avslutningsvis fördes en diskussion kring resultatet och de valda metoderna.

Temporary landscape architecture is often used to change the use of spaces, and to try out new, more experimental solutions in the public sphere. It also gives the opportunity of changing public space in response to seasonal need. Our aim was to investigate how temporary landscape architecture can increase social interactions and contribute to a more vibrant city, in a place that today seems unattractive for pedestrians, and how this can open new perspectives on the uses of public space. In this paper we researched the use of temporary landscape architecture and other temporary events, and examples are given of how temporary design and culture can be applied to public space. The work also has a social perspective focused on Jan Gehls book Cities for people with theories of how the public area is used by the people. Following from this, a selected area in Gottsunda centrum, a suburb of Uppsala, has been analysed and designed. The design focus is to create a better urban space and to increase the vibrancy in order to counteract the problems existing in the area. Lastly, a discussion of the results and the methods chosen are discussed.
