Abstract

Ett viktigt område är framtidens matförsörjning och dess utmaningar. För att hantera dessa utmaningar krävs både kunskap och kreativitet samt att framtida generationer i ett tidigt skede förstår hur dagens matproduktion fungerar och är uppbyggd. Detta i syfte att möjliggöra kloka val och avvägningar kring mat samt för att sätten vi producerar mat på ska kunna utvecklas. Målet med studien är därför att få en inblick i barns kunskaper om matens ursprung och på vilka sätt de erhållit dessa kunskaper.
Resultaten visade att barnens kunskaper om matens ursprung varierade kraftigt. Barn tenderar att ge mer spontana och oförutsägbara svar än förväntat. Ett par intressanta slutsatser kunde dras, nämligen att källorna vilka barnen hämtade sina kunskaper från i första hand tycks vara personliga upplevelser vilka inhämtats genom familj och släkt respektive tv-program. Det gick inte att påvisa att kunskaperna härstammade från den undervisning barnen erhållit i skolan. Samtliga barn visade i ett initialt skede sig ha till synes bristande kunskaper men kunde med tiden resonera sig fram till korrekta antaganden och fakta inom området. Det gick inte att påvisa att barnens kön haft någon påverkan på resultaten i denna studie.
Utifrån denna studie verkar barnens primära källa till kunskap om maten vara hemmet snarare än skolan. Detta föranleder att rekommendera en översyn av innehållet i skolans utbildningsplan för att säkerställa att alla skolbarn erhåller kunskaper inom detta ämne vilket berör oss alla idag såväl som i framtiden.

An important area is the food supply of the future and the challenges that comes with it. To deal with these challenges both knowledge and creativity is required combined with the understanding from future generations how today's food production works and how it’s structured at an early stage. This is in order to make it possible to make wise considerations and choices of food and to be able to develop the ways in which we produce food. The aim of the study is therefore to gain an insight into children's knowledge about the origin of food and the way in which they obtained this knowledge.
The results showed that the children's knowledge about the origin of the food varied greatly. Children tend to give more spontaneous and unpredictable answers than expected. A couple of interesting conclusions could be made, namely that the sources from which the children received their knowledge primarily appear to be personal experiences obtained through family and TV programs. It was not possible to prove that the knowledge was derived from the education the children received in school. Initially, all children proved to have a lack of knowledge but over time they were able to reason and make correct assumptions and facts in the area. It was not possible to show that the children's gender had any effect on the results of this study.
Based on this study, the children's primary source of knowledge about food seems to be home rather than school. This leads to recommending a review of the content of the school's educational plan to ensure that all schoolchildren receive knowledge in this subject which affects us all today as well as in the future.
