Abstract

Barns naturkontakt blir allt sämre på grund av dagens samhällsutveckling, stadsstruktur och vardagslivsnormer etc. Problematiken ligger till stor del i att de urbana landskapen inte utformas till barns fördel då man inte tar hänsyn till barns perspektiv och behov. Det görs heller inte tillräckligt för att uppmuntra barn till att utforska och lära känna sin urbana miljö. Jag blev motiverad att ta reda på hur man skulle kunna bidra till förändring genom att se till barns perspektiv när det kommer till deras möjligheter att uppleva naturen och leka i staden. Detta är viktiga förutsättningar för välmående barn.

Jag bestämde mig för att utforma en barnbok som skulle kunna locka ut barn att uppleva natur i det urbana landskapet genom lek. Genom litteraturstudier undersökte jag vidare hur barns situation ser ut och vilka komponenter som är viktiga att ta i beaktning för att skapa lekfull naturkontakt i staden. Eftersom det är barns lekfulla naturkontakt jag ville undersöka och försöka förstå hur man skulle kunna förbättra, var det självklart för mig att involvera barn.

Med hjälp av workshops med barn i 10-årsåldern var ambitionen att ta hänsyn till barns perspektiv och se huruvida deras uppfattning om förutsättningar för lekfull naturkontakt skiljde sig från litteraturen. På så vis fann jag parametrar att arbeta vidare med i förmedlingen av lekfull naturkontakt i ett format anpassat för barn. Jag intervjuade även en barnboksförfattare och läste olika barnböcker samt böcker om skrivande, för att förstå hur jag ville utforma barnboken.

Genom kommunikation med barnen har jag erhållit viktig information kring barns perspektiv och sättet de använder samt rör sig i staden. Barnen hade en positiv bild av naturen och hade gärna velat ha mer natur i staden. Deras uppfattning var att de kan röra sig fritt och att de har god kunskap om sitt lokala urbana landskap. Det verkar som att ju friare naturen är desto friare är leken i den. Med denna information som grund har jag arbetat med att förmedla lekfull naturkontakt till barn i ett barnboksformat.

Children’s nature contact is getting worse due to todays societal development, city structure and everyday standards etc. The problem is in much that the urban landscapes are not developed to children’s advantage since there is no consideration of children’s perspectives and needs. Neither is there enough being done to encourage children to explore and to get to know their urban environment. I was motivated to figure out how to contribute to change by acknowledging children’s perspectives when it comes to their possibilities to experience nature and play in the city. These are important conditions for healthy and prosperous children.

I decided to design a children’s book that would be able to attract children to discover nature and play in the urban landscape. Through literature studies I examined further how the situation of children looks today and which components that are important to work with to be able to create playful nature contact in the city. Since it is children’s playful nature contact that I wanted to examine and try to understand how to improve,it was obvious for me to involve children.

With help from workshops with 10-year-old children the ambition was to take into account children´s perspectives and see if their perception regarding prerequisites for playful nature contact differed from the literature. In this manner I found parameters to continue to work with in the intermediation of playful nature contact in a format adapted for children. I also interviewed a children’s book author and read different children’s books as well as books on writing, to understand how I wanted to design the children’s book.

Through communication with the children I have obtained important information on children’s perspectives and the way they use and move in the city. The children had a positive view of nature and would have loved to have more of it in the city. Their perception was that they can move freely in the city and that they have good knowledge of their local urban landscape. With this information as background I have worked with mediating playful nature contact to children in the format of a children´s book.
