Abstract

Storstadsdiskuren är ett fenomen som är aktuellt i Sverige idag, där den större staden ses som normalt och platser som skiljer sig från dessa blir sedda som ”det andra”. Denna kvalitativa uppsats visar hur storstadsdiskursen kan kän-nas igen i Dagens Nyheter under nyhetsåret under 2014, likväl som vilket mot-stånd mot den det går att finna i samma material. För att göra detta har inspi-ration dragits från kritisk diskursanalys. Analysen visar hur stad och lands-bygd sätts som varandras motpoler, hur bilden av landsbygden målas upp och hur vi kan läsa av maktrelationen som bygger upp storstadsdiskursen genom tidningens innehåll. Motståndet visas i form av igenkänning av fenomenet, rapporterade aktioner gentemot det och ifrågasättandet av det av artikelskri-benter.

Big city discourse is a phenomenon that is active in Sweden today, where the big city is seen as the normal and places that differ from them are seen as “the other”. This qualitative thesis shows how the big city discourse can be recog-nised in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter during the year of 2014 and what resistance that can be found in the same material. To do this, inspiration has been drawn from critical discourse analysis. The analysis show how city and countryside are constructed as opposites, how the picture of the country-side is drawn and how we can recognise the power relations that build the big city discourse through the material from the newspaper. The resistance to the big city discourse is shown through recognition of the phenomena, reported actions against it and questioning of it from the writers of articles.
