Abstract

Åren 1981–2 genomfördes en samtidsdokumentation av jordbruket på
tre gårdar i Uppland. I den här uppsatsen återkommer jag till dessa tre
med en vilja att förstå hur jordbrukets strukturrationalisering i den nyliberala
eran påverkar livet på den individuella gården. De tre gårdarna,
som brukade vara representativa för det uppländska jordbruket, blir
idag exempel på tre olika förändringsförlopp: det lilla nedlagda deltidsjordbruket
i skogsbygd; arrendegården som inte gick i arv; och storgården
som bytte ägare och expanderade. Jag jämför mitt eget material
från halvstrukturerade intervjuer med fältanteckningar från samtidsdokumentationen
i en framställning inspirerad av etnologin och fenomenologin,
men med en teoretisk utgångspunkt i strukturalismen. Genom
att växla mellan livsformsanalys och processer i den globala nyliberala
ekonomin visar jag hur den för jordbrukaren speciella levnadsform
som fanns på 80-talet idag inte längre är lika egenartad. Samtidigt
finns spåren av densamma kvar. Vad arbetet, gården och fritiden är
förändras beroende på om inkomsten kommer inom- eller utomgårds
ifrån. Med fokus på förändringar diskuteras även dess art som resultatet
av ett komplext växelspel mellan individuella och strukturella faktorer.
Vidare visar jag på den principiella skillnaden som ligger i att gårdarna
idag helt förlorat förmågan att reproducera sig själva, vilket betyder att
de är nu helt beroende av marknadsekonomin.

During the years 1981–2 a contemporary inquiry on agriculture on
three farms in the Swedish province of Uppland was conducted. In this
master thesis, I return to these farms, intending to understand how the
agricultural rationalisation in the era of neoliberalism affect life on the
individual farm. The three farms that used to be representative for agriculture
in Uppland, today instead illustrate three different processes
of change: the small discontinued part-time farm in woodland; the tenancy
farm that did not pass down to the next generation; and the big
farm that changed ownership and expanded. I compare my own material
from semi-structured interviews with field notes from the previous
inquiry in an exposition inspired by ethnography and phenomenology,
but with a perspective from structural theory. Through constantly
changing my perspective from life form analysis to the processes of the
global neoliberal economy, I show that the distinctive life form of the
farmer isn’t as peculiar as it was in the 1980s, although it is possible to
find traces of it today. What the work, the farm and the spare time is
changes depending on if the income comes from on-farm or off-farm
activities. With my focus on change, is the complexity of the same also
discussed as an interchange between individual and structural factors.
Further, I demonstrate the principled divergence that stems from the
fact that the farms no longer can reproduce themselves, as they are now
completely dependent on the market economy.
