Abstract

Träd fyller många viktiga funktioner i urbana miljöer, både ekologiskt, socialt och ekonomiskt. I gatumiljöer har träd länge använts på ett väldigt traditionellt sätt där en sorts träd placerats i raka rader med jämna mellanrum. Träd kan dock användas för att skapa en mängd olika rumsliga kvaliteter och upplevelser längs ett stråk beroende på hur de placeras. Det här arbetet vill med tre förslag ge exempel på hur promenadstråk med både upplevelse- och vistelsevärden kan skapas med hjälp av träd. Idén är att träden ska främja både rörelse och vistelse längs stråken. De platser som gestaltats är utpekade centrumstråk i Heby kommuns tätorter Heby, Tärnsjö och Harbo. Förslagen baserades på aspekter utifrån kommunens önskemål om hur kommunen och centrumstråken ska utvecklas kombinerat med Catherine Dees exempel på vilka upplevelser träd kan skapa längs ett stråk. I arbetet användes även konceptet pärlband, där träden representerade pärlorna. För att stärka rörelse respektive vistelse användes enstammiga träd i rader respektive flerstammiga träd i grupper. Stråkens gestaltningar utgick från samma principer och resulterade i tre olika förslag med vissa likheter men också stora skillnader utifrån platsernas olika förutsättningar i rumslighet och funktion. Även pärlbanden såg därför olika ut för de olika orterna. Det utmärkande i förslaget för Heby är några större pärlor vilka representeras av flera höga tallar som leder besökaren genom stråket. Tärnsjös stråk utgörs av en kedja från vilken pärlor hänger som berlocker på vardera sidan, vilket symboliserar hur grupper av träd i stråket placerats på höger respektive vänster sida av gatan. Det föreslagna stråket i Harbo består istället av en blandning av plastpärlor i olika form och färg med vissa luckor mellan dem, vilket visar på variationen i storlek och form mellan träden i förslaget. Förslagen ska ses som inspiration för ett fortsatt arbete med träd i Heby kommun.

As part of the urban environment trees play an important role ecologically, socially and economically. Designing streets with trees has traditionally been done with one species of evenly spaced trees in straight rows, even though framing paths with trees can be done in a number of ways depending on the qualities one wishes to achieve. This work wants to show examples of how trees can be used to create promenade paths with experience values as well as places to stay. This is done in three design proposals where trees are used to encourage both movement and stay. The design proposals are made for central paths in three small towns in Heby municipality: Heby, Tärnsjö and Harbo. The design proposals where based on five design principles, which were formed by combining the wishes of the municipality and Catherine Dee’s theories of different experiences that trees can create along a path. We also used the concept strings of pearls in the project, in which the trees were thought of as pearls along the paths. To encourage movement and stay, single-stemmed trees in lines and multi-stemmed trees in groups were used respectively. The design proposals originated in the same design principles and the three results showed both similarities but also many differences depending on the places different prerequisites in spatiality and function. Even the concept strings of pearls was different in the three proposals. In Heby the proposed path is characterized by several tall pine trees which lead the visitor through the path. The proposed path in Tärnsjö is made up by a chain on which pearls are attached on each side, which symbolizes how groups or rows of trees are placed on each side of the road respectively. In Harbo proposed path consists of a mix of plastic pearls in different forms and colors and with some space between them, which shows the variation in size and form between the trees in the design proposal. The design proposals could be seen as an inspiration for further work with trees in Heby municipality.
