Abstract

This study aims to investigate the costs (kr/TTv) of comminuted logging residues and energy wood for four different procurement systems as well as the needs of train transport at the NLC Storuman terminal. The terminal is currently using a mobile chipper but the question of how it stands against other systems has grown. The procurement systems that have been studied are: One with a hot system where a truck mounted chipper is used to chip logging residues at the road side so it can be transported with a chip truck to the terminal. Two with a cold system where 1) a chipper truck is used to chip the biomaterial directly in a container and transport it to the terminal and 2) a stationary chipper makes it plausible to chip the biomaterial as soon as it arrives to the terminal. Finally, one with a mobile chipper that requires the logging residues to be transported to the terminal for storage until the mobile chipper can get to the terminal to chip the biomaterial.

The costs per produced unit (kr/TTv) were calculated for each system with FLIS4.0 after the preset values have been updated with data collected through interviews with experts.

Potential harvested amounts of logging residues and energy wood were based on the dataset from SKA15 that investigate the potential to supply NLC Storuman with the biomaterial needed if the systems were to be implemented. Based on the concentrations extracted from SKA15 the theoretical catchment-area was calculated for each system in order to compare it to the catchment-area used today by NLC Storuman.

Lastly the average need of train transports was calculated for each system for NLC Storuman. These calculations were compared to the current need of train transports to test the equity for the case if the systems were to be implemented. For systems with considerable deviations it was calculated to find out for how much the system conditions can be changed without making the systems costs larger than the other systems.
