Abstract

Åstorp är en mindre järnvägsort i nordvästra Skåne vars centrum sedan flera år upplevs folktomt och otryggt. Några förändringar som kommer att påverka Åstorps centrum under de närmsta åren är byggandet av ett nytt bostadsområde alldeles intill stationen, ett nytt kommunhus samt en ny tåglinje mellan Åstorp och Malmö. Förutom dessa förändringar måste Åstorp hitta vägar att möta allmänna samhällsutmanningar och förbereda sig inför de nya sorters fordon som just nu utvecklas.

I takt med dessa förändringar vill kommunen också arbeta för ett mer trivsamt och livfullt centrum och stärka Åstorps identitet. En del i arbetet med detta är att successivt göra omgestalningar i centrum. Inför detta har dokument tagits fram kring trafiksituationen i centrum, medborgarnas åsikter har inhämtats och grönstrukturen studerats.

Under arbetets gång har analyser av Åstorp gjorts både på plats och vid skrivbordet. Åstorps historia, nutida situation och visioner har studerats i olika skalor och ur olika perspektiv för att få en förståelse för platsen.

Genom att använda sig av en gestaltningsstrategi ges ramar för att stärka de goda kvaliteter som finns i Åstorp, men också riktlinjer för att använda gestaltningsen som redskap för förnyelse och anpassning till nya krav och visioner. På så vis kan Åstorp bli både unikt och attraktivt. I detta arbetet ges förslag på en sådan gestaltningsstrategi.

För att formulera denna gestaltningsstrategi har dels de dokument som Åstorps kommun har initierat studerats men även samtida vetenskapliga teorier som tangerar ämnet. Ur denna litteratur har de kvalitetsaspekter som gestaltningsstrategin bygger på utkristaliserats.

Gestaltningsstrategin är ett första steg i arbetet med omgestaltningen av Åstorps centrum. Genom att utifrån denna kan kommunen sedan formulera gestaltningsprogram för var och en plats som ska gestaltas. Dessa program tas dock inte upp i detta arbetet. Däremot lämnas här ett konceptuellt exempel på gestaltning i Åstorps centrum. Dessa exempel är idéer framarbetade utifrån gestaltningstrategin och kan användas i tidiga skeden som hjälp och stöd i diskussionen och planprocessen för förverkligande av strategin.

Åstorp is a small railway town in the north west of Scania county, Sweden. For some years now the town centre has felt deserted and unsafe. In the near future there will be some changes in Åstorp that will affect the town centre. A new housing area will be build right next to the railway station, trains will start running from Åstorp to Malmö and there are plans for building a new town hall. In addition to that Åstorp has to prepare for the upcoming challenges in the society and the new kind of vehicles that are developed right now.

Along with the upcoming changes Åstorp municipality want to make the town centre more alive and attractive. At the same time they want to strenghen the identity of Åstorp. To reach this goal the town centre will be gradually redesigned. As a part of this process documents have been produced regarding the traffic situation in the center, citizens’ views have been obtained and the green structure has been studied.

During the work process analysis has been made both in Åstorp and behind the desk. The history, current situation and long-term visions has been studied from different scales and perspectives to get a deeper understanding of the place.

By using a design strategy frames are given to strengthen the good qualities that can be found in Åstorp. A design strategy can also be used as a guideline on how to use the design process as a tool for renewal, innovation and adaption to new requirements and visions. That way Åstorp will become both unique and attractive. In this thesis, a proposal for such a design strategy is given.

To develope the design strategy documents that have been initiated by Åstorp municipality have been studied together with contemporary scientific theories. From reading this litterature the idea of a design strategy has crystallized into a few aspects of quality. These aspects of quality are the building stones of the design strategy.

The design strategy is a first step in the process of redesigning Åstorp town centre. From this, the municipality can then formulate design programs for each site that is to be redesigned. These programs are not included in this thesis. However, a conceptual example of the design of two places in the center i presented. These examples have emerged based on the design strategy and can be used as a support in an early stage of the planning process of realising the strategy.
