Abstract

I föreliggande studie undersöks på vilka sätt skolgårdar fyller för funktion ur ett
verksamhetsperspektiv och dess utvecklingsmöjligheter. Intervjupersonerna är kommunala
företrädare inom förvaltningen barn- och utbildning i en norrländsk kommun. Deras åsikter och
tankar framkom genom den semistrukturerade, öppna intervjuformen vilket även visade på
beslutsvägar och organisatoriska tillvägagångssätt inom förvaltningen.

Bakgrunden ger en bild över miljöpsykologiskforskning och aktuella samhällsrapporter som
appliceras på områden och fenomen som respondenterna valde att behandla som viktiga.

Resultatet visar att de behov och funktioner som en skolgård ska erbjuda var bristfälliga i kommunen
och att skolgårdsupprustning ofta blev en åsidosatt fråga i planeringar, både vid nybyggnationer och
upprustningar. Utformningen av kommunens skolgårdar svarade således inte upp mot
respondenternas uppfattningar om hur en bra skolgård bör vara trots att förutsättningarna
egentligen var goda. Tydligare regelverk med beskrivningar av en lägsta nivå samt vilka funktioner
som ska finnas på en skolgård efterlystes samt att förvaltningen barn- och utbildning behövde ligga i
framkant av utvecklingen. Utemiljön sågs som en viktig plats för återhämtning, fysisk aktivitet, social
gemenskap och träning samt nödvändig för individens allmänna välbefinnande. Den skulle locka
barn- och ungdomar till att vilja gå ut och den gröna utformningen behövde uppmärksammas mer.

I studiens sista del diskuteras respondenternas tankar och på vilket sätt kunskap och evidens om
utemiljöers effekter skapar möjligheter för lek, lärande och hälsa i en framåtsyftande mening.

The upcoming study examines the different functions of a schoolyard in a working perspective but also the potential of development in this area. The respondents of the interviews are representatives for the administration of child and education in a northern Swedish municipality. In the study a semi-structured and open form of interview was used. Through this, the respondents thoughts and opinions emerged. It also showed the ways in which decisions are made as well as organizational structures.

The background gives a picture of environmental psychological science and current social reports. These are applied to areas and phenomenon that the respondents chosen to view as important.

The result shows that the needs and functions that a schoolyard should offer was deficient, and that the restoration and improvement of schoolyards often became a neglected matter. That was true,both in the planning of new constructions as well as restorations of existing schoolyards. The modelling of the community schoolyards did in that way not fulfill the respondents view of how a good schoolyard should be, although the conditions and terms were good. A more distinct regulatory system with deskriptions of a “lowest level” as well as what functions that should exist in a schoolyard, was requested. The views of the respondents were also that the administration of “child and education” needs to be ahead in this area of development.

The outdoor environment was viewed as an important place for recovery, physical activities, fellowship, exercise and was seen as a necessity for the personal well-being. It should attract children and adolescents to be outside and the green design needed to be paid more attention.

In the last part of the study, the views of the respondents are discussed, in what way the knowledge and evidence of the effects of outdoor environments, can create possibilities in the learning, playing and health for children and adolescents in a prospective matter.
