Abstract

Genom ett gestaltningsförslag för en temporär användning av Östra Ågatan i Uppsala undersöker studien hur nya mötesplatser kan skapas. Fokus för studien är att undersöka hur offentliga platser som vanligtvis används till trafik kan gestaltas för att bidra till en livlig stadsmiljö under sommarhalvåret. Målet med den temporära användningen är att ge mer utrymme för sociala aktiviteter och bidra till en ökad social hållbarhet i Uppsala. Genom temporär användning ges möjlighet att testa och se hur platser kan användas på nya sätt. Det kan därför användas som en katalysator i förändringen av en plats som synliggör konflikter mellan olika intressen. Studien grundar sig i litteratur om stadens offentliga platser, rumsligheters utformning samt material och funktioner lämpliga för temporär användning. Principer för ett levande stadsliv av arkitekten Jan Gehl lägger grunden för gestaltningen tillsammans med inventeringen och platsanalysen som utgår från en teori utvecklad av stadsplaneraren Kevin Lynch. Gestaltningsförslaget visar hur rumsligheter kan skapas på ett enkelt sätt för att öka flexibiliteten i användandet av platsen. Dessa principer för utformning av rumsligheter kan även användas på andra platser.

Through a design proposal for a temporary use of Östra Ågatan in Uppsala, the study explores how new meeting places can be created. The focus of the study is to investigate how public places usually used for traffic can be shaped to contribute to a lively urban environment during the summer. The purpose of the temporary use is to provide more room for social activities and contribute to increased social sustainability in Uppsala. Temporary use gives the opportunity to test and see how places can be used in new ways. This strategy can therefore be used as a catalyst in the change of a place that reveals conflicts between different interests. The study is based on literature concerning the city's public places, space layouts, materials and functions suitable for temporary use. Principles for creating a lively city life by architect Jan Gehl lay the foundation for the design together with a site analysis based on a theory developed by the urban planner Kevin Lynch. The design proposal shows how space can be created in an easy way to increase the flexibility of the use of the site. Principles for the design of different spaceships used and presented in this study can similarly be used in other places.
