Abstract

Sedan tidernas begynnelse har naturen haft läkande effekter på människors välmående. Redan i gamla Grekland hade väletablerade filosofer som Aristoteles och Platon kännedom om naturens krafter. Denna kunskap har sedan dess haft en stor betydelse för behandlingsmetoder inom psykisk ohälsa. Under 80-talet publicerades flera teorier om varför människor mår bra av att vistas ute i naturen. Idag är psykisk relaterade ohälsa ett växande problem i samhället. Det finns rehabiliteringsträdgårdar i Sverige som inriktar sig på olika målgrupper. I denna uppsats behandlas två rehabiliteringsträdgårdar, Nynäs och Gröna Rehab som inriktar sig på människor som lider av depression och utmattningssyndrom. Syftet med arbetet var att undersöka vilka teorier som fick störst genomslag vid gestaltningen av rehabiliteringsträdgårdar för personer med psykisk ohälsa. Teorierna som behandlas i uppsatsen tar upp principer som är bra att ha med i en rehabiliteringsträdgård. Platsbesöken gav möjligheten att göra observationer på fyra punkter som tas upp i min frågeställning: utformning, aktivitet, växtlighet samt vilka teorier som har inspirerat gestaltningen av trädgårdarna. Intervjuerna gav respondenterna möjligheten att berätta mer ingående om gestaltningen och vilka teorier som inspirerade utformningen. Resultatet visade att teorierna som verksamhetsledarna angav stämde med observationerna och att det finns gemensamma faktorer mellan trädgårdarna samt faktorer som skiljer sig åt. Ett överraskande slutsats är att trots att samma teorier användes i båda verksamheterna vid gestaltningen, blev slutresultatet olika.

Since the beginning of time, nature has had healing effects on people’s wellbeing. In ancient Greece, well-established philosophers like Aristotle and Plato had knowledge of the powers of nature. Since then, this knowledge has been of great importance to treatment methods in mental health. During the 80's, several theories published as to why people feel staying outdoors in nature. Today, mentally related ill health is a growing problem in society. There are rehabilitation gardens in Sweden that focus on different groups. This essay focus on two rehabilitation gardens, Nynäs and Gröna Rehab, that treats people suffering from depression and fatigue syndrome. The purpose of this work was to investigate the theories that had the greatest impact on the design of rehabilitation gardens for people with mental illness. The theories discussed in this paper set out principles that should be in a rehabilitation garden. The site visit gave the opportunity to make observations on four points addressed in my question: design, activity, vegetation and theories that inspired the design of the gardens. The interviews gave the respondents the opportunity to tell about the gardens and the theories that inspired the design. The result showed that the theories given by the leaders consisted on the made observations and that there were common and different factors between the gardens. A surprising conclusion is that, although the same theories were used in both gardens, the result was different.
