Abstract

There is no such thing as an anthroposophical landscape architecture. The overall perspective that anthroposophy provides may however result in a deeper concern for the landscape. It is mankind's duty to take a moral responsibility for our mutual world. Meanwhile, anthroposophy practices a constant awareness of the esthetical aspects of our surroundings. Anthroposophy was initiated by the Austrian Rudolf Steiner in the early twentieth century. Many of his thoughts were further developments of the philosophies of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Steiner introduced biodynamical cultivation and was also the founder of the first Waldorf-school. The garden of the Rudolf Steiner seminar in Ytterjärna has been a role model for anthroposophical values in landscape engineering in Sweden. Artist, teacher and gardener Arne Klingborg is the man behind the design of that garden. Klingborg's views of gardens and the gardener's function have spread too many non-anthroposophical gardens in Sweden.
