Abstract

The object of the thesis is to propose a new lighting plan
for the square Fyristorg in Uppsala, and to describe the
process which have led to it.

It all started when I choosed the place together with the
municipality of Uppsala.

I have been doing research and analyzed how the place
and it´s existing lighting works both during different times
of the day and also in the evening.

After researching the place and it´s existing lighting I´ve
decided to put up the following goals fot the new lighting
design.

1. The general light level of the place shall be experienced
as higher than today.

2. The light level of the place shall be adapted to the light
levels of surrounding places.

3. The lighting shall be free from glare.

4. The lighting shall be adapted to people passing by.

5.The lighting shall be adapted to the surrounding
architecture.

6. The lighting shall strengthen and consider the unique
character and beauty of the place.

7. The site shall be functional regardless what activities
taking place here.

In my sketching phase, I have been researching how to use
the design to fulfil these goals. It has led me to base the
design on the following themes:

1. Square in moonlight

2. The warm paths

3. The arcs

4. The streaming water

5. Meetings between differences

6. Excitement

7. Adaption to season

To get inspiration and references for the technical solutions
of the design, I have visited several places in Uppsala,
Stockholm and Copenhagen. In the beginning of May I
also visited a trade fair for electricity and lighting to meet
people from lighting companies to get advices about
technical solutions and to make connections.

I have had the possibility to try out parts of the design in
reality by doing tests with some of the armatures, which
has made it easier for me to make decisions about some of
the technical solutions.

The final lighting design is called "Meeting in moonlight"
and it´s essence is the meeting between:

1. The both sides of the river

2. Warm and cold light

3. Different people during different times of the day

4. Shadow and light

"Meeting in moonlight" is considered to be a functional
design to replace the lighting existing on the square today.
The design should be an inspiration for the municipality
and the property owners when they want to change the
place.

Examensarbetet består av ett nytt belysningsförslag
för Fyristorg och dess omgivning i Uppsala, samt en
beskrivning av arbetet som lett fram till detta.
Arbetet inleddes med att jag valde ut platsen i samråd med
Uppsala kommun
Jag har därefter gjort inventering och analys av platsen och
dess befintliga belysningsarmatur både dag- och nattetid.
Efter analyserna av platsen och dess befintliga
belysningsanläggningar har jag kommit fram till ett antal
mål som det nya förslaget ska uppfylla.
1. Platsens allmänna ljusnivå skall upplevas som högre än
idag
2. Platsens ljusnivå skall vara anpassad till omgivande
platsers ljusnivå.
3. Belysningen skall vara bländfri.
4. Belysningen skall vara anpassad till de passerande.
5. Belysningen skall vara anpassad till platsens arkitektur.
6. Belysningen skall förstärka och ta hänsyn till platsens
unika karaktär och skönhetsvärden.
7. Anläggningen skall fungera oavsett vilken verksamhet
som bedrivs på platsen
I skissarbetet har jag undersökt hur jag ska arbeta med
gestaltningen för att uppfylla målsättningarna och jag
har då kommit fram till att gestaltningen skall bygga på
följande teman:
1. Torgrum i månsken
2. De varma stråken
3. Bågformen
4. Det forsande vattnet
5. Möten mellan olikheter
6. Spänning
7. Säsongsanpassning
För att få inspiration och referenser till belysningens
tekniska lösningar har jag besökt ett antal
belysningsanläggningar i Uppsala, Stockholm och
Köpenhamn. Jag har även besökt Elfackmässan i Göteborg
i början av maj för att få möjlighet att få igång samarbete
med och knyta kontakter med olika armaturleverantörer.
Jag har haft möjlighet att testa delar av förslaget genom
provbelysningar vilket gjort det lättare för mig att fatta
beslut om de tekniska delarna av förslaget.
Det färdiga förslaget ”Möte i månsken” handlar om just
möten. Möten mellan
1. De båda sidorna av Fyrisån
2. Varmt och kallt ljus
3. Människor under alla tider på dygnet
4. Ljus och skugga
”Möte i månsken” är tänkt att vara ett funktionellt förslag
som ska kunna ersätta dagens belysningsanläggning
och ska utgöra en inspirationskälla för kommunen och
fastighetsägarna då de vill bygga om platsen.
