Abstract

Uppsatsen har sin utgångspunkt i Ödåkra, strax utanför
Helsingborg. Ett litet samhälle som har gått från att vara
en fristående bruksort till att allt mer ha integrerats till att
bli en villaförort till Helsingborg. I uppsatsen diskuteras hur
detta förändringsförlopp har sett ut genom att ta avstamp i
Ödåkra spritfabrik, vars verksamhet avvecklades i mitten
av 1970-talet. Sedan dess har fabrikskomplexets funktion
varit otydlig. Tyngdpunkten i arbetet ligger dels i relationen
mellan “Spritan” och invånarna, och dels i relationen med
det omgivande fysiska landskapet. Diskussionerna om
dessa relationer behjälps av en teoriram uppbyggd kring
produktions- och konsumtionslandskap, ruiner och platsidentitet.

Syftet med uppsatsen är först och främst att skildra
arven från Spritan samt att undersöka huruvida fabriken har
ett symbolvärde som underbygger en viss identitet.
Detta uppnås dels genom att analysera de berättelser
om Spritan och Ödåkra som kommer ur kvalitativa
forskningsintervjuer, och även genom en analys av det
fysiska landskapet utifrån mina egna observationer. Ett
annat syfte är att lyfta fram några möjligheter att bygga
vidare på arvet när framtidens Ödåkra väl ska utformas.
Denna del knyts an till tidigare diskussioner samt
övergripande planeringsdokument.

Studien visar att det fysiska landskapet i Ödåkras centrala
delar har påverkats av spritfabrikens närvaro. Framväxten
av Ödåkra by är i sig ett resultat av spritfabrikens
etablering genom att verksamheter och bostäder byggdes
i närheten av fabrikskomplexet. Sedan verksamheten
lades ner har ett nytt produktionslandskap, byggt på
konsumtionssamhällets ideal, vuxit fram på andra sidan
orten, varpå verksamheter och bostäder istället byggts i
anslutning till detta. På så vis ger uppsatsen en bild av
produktionslandskapets makt över rummet. Studien
visar också hur arv från spritfabrikens verksamhetsår
dröjt kvar i såväl det fysiska som i det sociala landskapet
i Ödåkras äldre bykärna. Dessa arv representeras av
diverse symboler i landskapet och dess struktur samt i
invånarnas berättelser, åsikter och känsloyttringar om
Spritan. Uppsatsens sista del visar hur det är möjligt
att bygga vidare på dessa arv med stöd av rådande
planeringsunderlag.

This thesis has its base in the village of Ödåkra, just
outside of Helsingborg. A small village that has gone
from being an independent mill community to being
integrated in the city of Helsingborg as a villa suburb.
The thesis includes discussions on the process of this
transformation by starting out from the old liquor factory
of Ödåkra that shut down in the mid-70s. The function
of this area has ever since been unclear. The emphasis of
this work is put on the relationship between “Spritan”
and the inhabitants of Ödåkra as well as the surrounding
physical landscape. Theories concerning production
and consumption landscapes, ruins and place identity
are applied to help reinforce the discussion about these
relations.

The primary purpose is to identify and describe the
legacies from Spritan and discuss whether the old factory
has a symbolic value that underpin a certain local identity.
This is achieved by analyzing stories about Spritan and
Ödåkra, stories that stem from qualitative research
interviews, but also through an analysis of the physical
landscape from my own observations. Another purpose
is to delineate the possibilities to build on these legacies
in the future planning of Ödåkra. This part is supported
by earlier discussions and are also tied to contemporary
planning documents.

The study shows that the physical landscape of Ödåkra
is directly influenced by the presence of the factory. The
emergence of the village of Ödåkra is in itself a result
of the liquor factory’s establishment as a business since
dwellings was built in connection with the industrial
area. Since its closing, another production landscape -
built on ideals of the consumer society - was established
on the other side of the village, whereupon all subsequent
development instead have been connected to this. In
this way the thesis portrays the power that production
landscapes can have over space. The study also shows
how legacies have lingered since the days when the
factory was up and running. The legacy is present in the
social landscape through people’s stories, expressions
and memories. In the physical landscape the legacies are
represented by certain symbols as well as by the structures
of space. In the last part of the thesis suggestions are
made on how to build on these legacies with support
from current plans.
