Abstract

Syftet för detta arbete var att studera och diskutera om det går att göra en sammanställning av Corylus och dess arter uteslutande från Internet. Arbetet med sammanställningen skulle svara på ett antal frågor. Vad är fördelarna med att använda Internet som informationskälla? Finns det trovärdig information i tillräcklig mängd för en sammanställning av släktet och dess arter? Hur försäkrar man sig om kvalitén på informationen? Vad är svårigheterna med Internet som informationskälla?
Internet anses ännu så länge inte vara tillräckligt tillförlitlig som källa, ur ett strikt vetenskapligt perspektiv. Men om ett Internetforum anger primärkällor, hur och när man lagt ut informationen och på uppdrag och tillåtelse av vem, så ges läsaren möjlighet att själv bilda sig en uppfattning om hur trovärdig informationen är, allt enligt metoddelen i detta arbete. Slutsatsen blir att om man bara har en metod för hur man ska utföra källkritik noggrant, så är informationen man hittar lika trovärdig som licensierat material eller material utgivet på papper.

The objective of this paper is to study and discuss whether it is possible to put together a compilation of the genus Corylus and its species and sub-species solely from information found on the Internet. The process of putting together the compilation is expected to answer a number of questions. What are the advantages of using the Internet as a source of information? Is there enough information to assemble a reliable compilation? How is the quality of the information ensured? What are the difficulties with using the Internet as a primary source of information?
The Internet is not yet considered to be a fully reliable source of information, seen from a scientific perspective. What is lacking is reliability given by primary sources. Any given Internet forum must therefore clearly specify all primary sources, as well as how and when the information was made available on the Internet and on behalf of whom and on whose approval. This enables the reader to evaluate if the information is reliable, all according to the method described in this paper. The conclusion is that if there is a method on how to perform criticism of the sources, the information found on the Internet is as reliable as any information from licensed material or material published on paper.
