Abstract

Utgångspunkten i denna kandidatuppsats inom landskapsarkitektur är att undersöka hur
synen och användandet av betong, i framför allt utemiljöer, har förändrats från
modernismen, genom brutalismen till idag. Då mycket av det som står skrivet om betong
sedan tidigare ofta fokuserar på betongens tekniska aspekter, är tanken med denna uppsats
att undersöka betong ur ett nytt perspektiv och granska materialet utifrån stilideal och
intentionen bakom användandet.
Uppsatsen är uppdelad i fyra delar: en inventerande del med litteraturstudier där olika
riktlinjer inom betonganvändandet synliggörs, vilket leder in på den platsbesökande delen
som utgår ifrån kvalitativa observationer på tre olika platser där betongen har en central roll
och där resultaten av litteraturstudierna visas. Efter detta kommer en analyserande del, där
jag undersöker platsbesöken utifrån tre olika motsatsaspekter. Slutligen kommer en kritiskt
diskuterande del där frågeställningen för uppsatsen ”Hur har synen på betong och
användandet av detsamma förändrats från tiden för miljonprogrammet till idag, med
utgångspunkt i rådande stilideal?” samt resultatet av litteraturstudierna och platsbesöken
diskuteras utifrån olika aspekter.
Detta har resulterat i en uppsats där diskussionen kring hur betongens status har förändrats
över tid ligger i fokus. Slutsatsen gör materialets komplexitet synligt och tydliggör olika
aspekter som gör att områden där betongen är utbredd kan vara både uppskattade och inte.

The premise of this bachelor thesis in landscape architecture is to examine how the vision and the use of concrete, especially in outdoor environments, has changed from modernism, trough brutalism until today. Since much of what previously is written about concrete often
focus on the technical aspects of the material, the idea of this essay to examine concrete from a new perspective, and review material on the basis of style ideals and intent behind the use.
The thesis is divided into four parts: an inverting part with literature studies where different guidelines in concrete use is made visible, leading in to the site visitors portion which assumes qualitatives observations at three different places where the concrete has a central
role and where the results of the literature studies is shown. After this, an analytical part takes place where I examine the site visits from three different contrast aspects. Finally, a critical discussion takes place where the issue ”How has the perception of the concrete and
the use of the same changed from the time of the Swedish million program until today, based on the prevailing stylistic ideal?” and the results of literature studies and site visits are discussed from different aspects.
This has resulted in an essay where the discussion around how the concrete status has changed over time is the focus. The conclusion makes the material complexity visible, and
clarifies various aspects that make areas, in which concrete is widespread, can be both appreciated and not.
