Abstract

I det här examensarbetet undersöks industrins plats i staden
med Ringöns industriområde i Göteborg som objekt
för undersökningen.
Arbetet tar upp flera anledningar till att ifrågasätta industriverksamhetens frånvaro i västvärlden och, framför allt, i staden. I takt med att handel och tillverkning globaliserats, har avindustrialiseringen i väst blivit ett faktum. En stor del av tillverkningsindustrin har av ekonomiska skäl flyttats till låglöneländer, och informationssamhället har kommit att betraktas som industrisamhällets ersättare. I stadsbyggandet har detta tydligt visat sig i omvandlingen av tidigare industriella områden till bostads-, kontors-, och handelskomplex.
Denna utveckling, med industrins frånvaro i vår del av
världen och dess städer, har börjat omvärderas av flera
forskare. Det finns de som anser att tillverkningsindustrin
måste komma tillbaka, både av ekonomiska och miljömässiga skäl. Man menar att den nya industrin som etableras kommer att vara lokal och småskalig. För att möta den nya industrins behov, behöver planerare och arkitekter, landskapsarkitekter och andra experter skapa lösningar för hur dessa behov skall kunna integreras med andra funktioner i staden.
Planerare och arkitekter har idag möjlighet att omvärdera
och omdefiniera industrins plats i staden. Den integrerade
industrin har ekonomiska, sociala och rumsliga fördelar. För att kunna ta del av sådana fördelar krävs ett förändrat synsätt på industribegreppet.
I uppsatsen prövas Ringöns utveckling, ett småskaligt
industriområde intill Göta Älv. Stadsdelen, som ingår i
projektet Vision Älvstaden, är föremål för en stadsomvandling tillsammans med den intilliggande stadsdelen
Frihamnen.
Med kunskapsinhämtning inom industri och funktionsintegrering och en förståelse för platsen Ringön, ges här ett förslag till Ringöns utveckling utifrån hur platsen fungerar i dag och hur den skulle kunna fungera i framtiden.

This thesis examines the industry's position in the city
with the Ringön industrial area in Gothenburg as a studyobject.
The work discusses several reasons to question the industry's absence in the West and, above all, in the city. As the trading and manufacturing have been globalized, the
deindustrialization of the West has become a fact. A large
part of the manufacturing industry has, for financial reasons, moved to low-wage countries, and the information
society has come to be considered as the replacement
of the industrialized society. In urban development, this
has clearly been shown in the transformation of former
industrial areas into residential, office and commercial
complexes.
This development, with the industry’s absence in our part
of the world and it’s cities, is today re-evaluated by several researchers. There are those who believe that the manufacturing sector has to come back, for both economic
and environmental reasons. It is said that the new industries to be established will be local and small scale. To meet the new needs of the industry it requires planners
and architects, landscape architects and other experts
to create solutions for these needs to be integrated with
other functions in the city.
Planners and architects today has the opportunity to
rethink and redefine the industry’s place in the city. The
integrated industry has economic, social and spatial
advantages. In order to take advantage of these benefits
it requires a change in our mindset on the concept of
industry.
In this paper the development for Ringön is tested.
Ringön is a small-scale industrial area next to the river
Göta älv. The district, which is included in the project
RiverCity Gothenburg, is the subject of transformation of
the city together with the adjacent district of the Frihamnen.
With the acquisition of knowledge on industry and
function integration and an understanding of the place
Ringön, a proposal for Ringöns development is given
from how the site works today and how it might work in
the future.
