Abstract

Skogen är inte bara en viktig ekonomisk resurs för Sverige och en livsmiljö för många växt- och djurarter. Den bidrar också till stora upplevelsemässiga och rekreativa värden, det vill säga sociala värden. Skogen ska tillgodose många behov och konflikter kan uppstå mellan olika intressenter. Fokus i detta examensarbete var ett skogsområde i byn Dalasjös närhet i Vilhelmina kommun i norra Sverige där en intressekonflikt uppstått mellan skogsägarens planer på att föryngringsavverka och den lokala befolkningens önskan om att behålla området intakt för rekreation och sociala aktiviteter. Huvudsyftet med studien var att genomföra en kartläggning och beskrivning av skogens sociala värden i Dalasjö och den aktuella intressekonflikten. Fokussamtal med lokala användare utfördes för att undersöka hur Dalasjöborna definierar skogens sociala värden, hur skog, mark och vatten nyttjas för friluftsliv och rekreation i Dalasjö samt vilka intressekonflikter som finns i området. Resultatet visade att skogsområdet är en integrerad del av den kollektiva identiteten i byn och att byborna värderar skogen högt bland annat för dess tillgänglighet och höga estetiska värden. En intressekonflikt som identifierades var den mellan skogens produktionsvärde och bybornas intresse av att behålla de höga sociala värden som finns i området.

The forest is not only an important economic resource for Sweden and a habitat for many plant and animal species. It also holds large experiential and recreational values, i.e. social values. The forest should supply many interests, and conflicts can arise between different stakeholders. Focus of this study was a forest area located near the village Dalasjö in Vilhelmina municipality in northern Sweden where a conflict of interest arose between the forest owner tentative plans to final felling and the desire of the local villagers to keep the area intact for recreation and social activities. The main aim of this study was to conduct a survey and description about the social values of the forest in Dalasjö and the current conflict of interest. Focus group discussions with local villagers were performed to explore how the local villagers define social values, how forest, land and water are used for recreation and outdoor life and the conflicts of interest which exist in the area. The result showed that the forest area is an integrated part of the collective identity in the village and that the villagers value the forest high for its aesthetics and accessibility. Conflicts of interests that were found were the conflict between the forests economical value and the villagers’ interest of keeping the social values in the area.
