Abstract

Detta examensarbete handlar om hur Åstorp, en mindre ort i
nordvästra Skåne kan utveckla sin identitet och attraktivitet som Söderåsstaden. Syftet med examensarbetet är att undersöka, försöka förstå och med fokus på gestaltning ge förslag på utveckling av en mindre centralorts problematik med identitet och fortsatt
utveckling i en konkurrensutsatt region.

Åstorp är ett relativt ungt samhälle som byggdes upp i samband med järnvägens etablering 1875. Åstorp är en liten inlandskommun med knappt 15 000 invånare beläggen mitt i det expansiva, nordvästra hörnet av Skåne. Kommunens centralort ligger alldeles intill Söderåsens nordvästra spets och har ett unikt läge tack vare järnvägsstationen med Pågatåg och den intilliggande naturen.

Dock är kopplingen till Söderåsen otydlig och kommunen har en ambition att stärka denna. Kommunens vision för 2020 är: Åstorp – Söderåsstaden där människor och företag möts och växer. I visionen finns bland annat mål och fokus på boende och utveckling av ett större turistmål. På Söderåsen finns ett flertal rekreativa målpunkter där det stora, centrumnära makadambrottet har potential att bli ett attraktivt natur- och rekreationsområde, både som ett regionalt besöksmål och för kommunens invånare.
Examensarbetet inleds med grundläggande analyser och studier av Åstorps historia samt nutida status och förutsättningar. Jag har vid ett flertal tillfällen besökt de olika platserna, haft intervjuer och samtal med berörda parter, som samhällsbyggnadsenheten i Åstorp, kommunens näringslivsutvecklare, näringsidkare, fastighetsförvaltare
med flera. Dessa källor har tillsammans givit en grund
som gestaltningsförslagen bygger på.

För att skapa mer attraktiva offentliga rum i Åstorp har jag studerat begreppen identitet och mötesplatser. Jan Gehls ”Livet mellem husene” (2003) har särskilt givit inspiration och handledning i min analys- och gestaltningsprocess.

I arbetet har bland annat rapporten Stationsnära läge, utgiven av Länsstyrelsen i Skåne tillsammans med Skånetrafiken, Region Skåne och Trafikverket (2010) varit en inspirerande källa. Rapportens syfte är att de stationsnära lägena ska nyttjas på bästa sätt
och främja ett samhälle där bilen inte är det enda transportalternativet.

I Åstorp stannar idag Pågatågen och det finns planer på att
utveckla både person- och godstrafiken, vilket skapar både möjligheter men också viss problematik.
Examensarbetets resultat baseras på studier och undersökningar av olika förslag och rumsligheter i ett 3D-skissprogram, kombinerat med synpunkter från och diskussioner med bland annat samhällsbyggnadsenheten.
Produkten av detta är ett övergripande konceptförslag
för länken mellan centrum och Söderåsen, samt mer
detaljerade gestaltningsförslag på två viktiga mötesplatser; torget och stationsmiljön. I det ingår också ett grundläggande stadsmiljöprogram som ger riktlinjer på hur man kan arbeta med en helhetsbild och attraktivitet i de offentliga rummen för att stärka Åstorps identitet och utveckling. Flertalet stadmiljöprogram har studerats
och Söderåsen är konceptets stora inspirationskälla i val av färger, växter och möbler. Torget utvecklas till en mer attraktiv mötesplats med fokus på mänsklig aktivitet och en rumslighet som inbjuder till möten och rörelse. Arbetet avgränsas till att omfatta gestaltning av järnvägsparken vid stationsområdet som en del av kopplingen till centrum och framförallt Söderåsens centrumnära målpunkter.

Alla delar i examensarbetet avslutas med en reflektion där jag diskuterar resultatet och sammanfattar vad som är viktigt att ta med sig vidare i processen. Avslutningsvis görs en reflektion över gestaltningsförslagen och deras framtid samt min egen arbetsprocess.

Jag hoppas att förslaget kan bidra med inspiration i utvecklingen av Åstorps centrum och kopplingen till Söderåsen, som berörda parter har möjlighet att arbeta vidare med.

This examination paper discusses how Åstorp, a small community in the North West of Skåne, can develop its identity and appeal as the town of Söderåsen. The paper aims to investigate and understand a small town’s issues regarding identity and continued development in a competitive region, as well as present proposals
on how to strengthen the identity and development.
As a relatively young community, Åstorp was founded alongside the railway in 1875. It is a small midland community situated in the center of the expansive North West corner of Skåne, with scarcely 15 000 inhabitants. The community center is at the foot of the North West point of Söderåsen, which presents the town with a unique location in combination with the railway station and its Pågatåg and closeness to nature. However, the connection to Söderåsen is vague and the community has a hope of strengthening
this connection. In a vision presented by the municipality
Åstorp should, by 2020, be Åstorp – The town of Söderåsen, where people and companies meet and grow. This vision contains goals which focus on housing and development of a larger tourist destination.

Söderåsen offers a number of recreational destinations, one
of which is the close to town center quarry. This location has the potential of becoming an attractive nature and recreational area, both as a regional destination and a local one.

Basic analyses and studies of local history, as well as up-to-date status and condition are the paper’s starting point. I have visited the locations, held interviews with concerned establishments such as the office of planning structure, the Business and Tourism Development Manager of the municipality, business owners and real estate managers. My design proposals are based on the information given by these sources.

I have also studied the concept of identity and meeting place, in order to create more attractive public spaces in Åstorp. Jan Gehls “Livet mellem husene” (2003) is a source of inspiration and guidance in my process of design and analyses.

In 2010 Länsstyrelsen published Stationsnära läge, a joint project with Skånetrafiken, Region Skåne and Trafikverket. The report state that locations close to the railway station should be used in the best possible way, and promote a community where the car is not the sole transportation. Today, the Pågatåg stops in Åstorp and
there are existing plans on developing both passenger transportation and goods traffic. This creates opportunities as well as difficulties.

The result is based on the studies and investigations of different proposals and spatiality in the 3D-program SketchUp, in a combination with views and discussions with the office of social structure among others. I have produced a general concept regarding the link between the town center and Söderåsen. I have also created a detailed proposal for two important meeting places; the square and the station. These also include a basic urban environment program, with guidelines on how to create a general
impression and appeal in the public spaces to enhance Åstorps identity and development. Different urban environment programs have been studied and the big inspiration for choice of colors, plants and furniture is Söderåsen itself. The square is made into a more attractive meeting place with focus on human activity and a spatiality promoting meeting and movement. The paper is limited
to discuss the design of the railroad park by the station as a part of the connection to the town center and especially to destinations of Söderåsen.

Every chapter is concluded with a reflection of the result and a conclusion of important realizations needed to be considered in the continued work. To round off I reflect on my designed proposals and their future, as well as my own process. My hope is that this proposal might inspire the development of Åstorp center and its connection to Söderåsen, which concerned parties are able to continue working on.
