Abstract
My thesis is a combination of theory and practice, where theory is meant to create a context and a background for my interpretation proposal. I wanted to ”access” the ideas that are always in the background of the reasoning which underlies both planning in a larger scale, and the design of a place. I wanted to make a ”work of ideas.” In the process of shaping the proposal, I wanted to be deleted from the site itself.
My work is about Spåret (the track) - a proposal for how the vision of ”a network of streets and squares” can be complemented with a green communication string that begins in the square environment at Industrigatan in plan area Norra Sorgenfri and leads to an existing park nearby - Ellstorpsparken.
Spåret, a development of earlier plans for pedestrian and bicycle path on the abandoned industrial tracks in the range of - now as ”a cross path between squares and parks.” I have an idea for a nature park where the ideas of the square and the park can meet in a dialogue between structure and romanticism.
My proposal is to create a solution with multiple variables. Spåret links to existing raised greenery and provides an imaginative, green urban environment that can contribute positively to the identity at an early stage. While creating the recreational and communication facilities.
The proposal does not compete with the plans for Bulltofta corridor (where the cemeteries are part of a planned, continuous service from Rörsjöstaden to Bulltofta recreation area) - it is complementary. The idea of Spåret provides simple means, the new inhabitants access to the grown-up, multi-functional, green and beautiful neighborhood park Ellstorpsparken, just north of the Plan area, at an early stage in the area’s development.
By striving to reach the origin of ideas, but is the constant conflict that I experienced between the systematic thinking and creativity. The work has provided more questions than answers, which is exciting.
Sustainable development is one of the key ingredients in the vision for Norra Sorgenfri. What relationship exists between the concept of sustainable development and shaping ideas/compositions? I ponder the importance of design in sustainable planning. Sustainable planning - a matter of composition?
