Abstract

Arbetet bottnar i en övertygelse om att ett golflandskap kan uppgraderas både vad gäller upplevelse och spelstrategi med hjälp av progressiv vegetationsdesign. Syftet med uppsatsen är att pröva hur ett antal vegetationskoncept fungerar om de applicerades i ett golflandskap. Vegetationskoncepten är hämtade från referenslandskap med stora upplevelsekvalitéer som t.ex. halvöppna hagmarker. Målet är att skapa alternativ för hur berikande vegetation kan byggas upp och integreras i en golfanläggning med referenslandskap som förebild.
Avstamp tas i litteraturstudie som belyser de viktigaste principerna för hur träd och vegetation kan användas på golfbanor. Tre platser hämtade från olika golfbanor används som utgångspunkt för arbetet. Platserna utgörs av golfhål som valts ut baserat på tillkortakommanden i vegetationsuppbyggnaden. Inledningsvis presenteras och analyseras dessa platser. Vidare har fältstudier genomförts i för ändamålet lämpliga referenslandskap för att kartlägga användbara strukturer och grupperingar. Golfhålen som analyserats, matchas sedan mot referenslandskapen baserat på hur väl ståndortsförhållanden, vegetationstyp, landskapskaraktär och vegetationsstruktur stämmer överens mellan referenserna och golfbanelandskapen. Slutligen prövas kvalitéerna hos de för respektive golfmiljö utvalda referenslandskapens vegetationsmönster och arter med hjälp av planer, elevationer och analyserade text. Särskilt fokus läggs även på växtmaterialets utveckling över tid.
Slutsatsen blir att upplevelserika kulturlandskap likt de referenser som kartlagts i denna studie är goda och funktionella förebilder för hur golfbanor kan berikas samt hur golfanläggningar skulle kunna arbeta med vegetationsbyggnad. Vidare är metodiken som använts i detta arbete mycket tillämpbar i andra liknade situationer.

This thesis stems from a belief that a golf landscape can be upgraded in terms of both experience and game strategy with the help of progressive vegetation design. The aim of this paper is to examine how a number of vegetation concept works if applied in a golf landscape. The vegetation concepts are retrieved from reference landscapes with great experience qualities such as semi-open pastures. The goal is to create options for how enriching vegetation can be integrated into a golf course with the reference landscape as a model. Starting point is the literature that highlights the key principles of how trees and vegetation could be used on golf courses. Three sites from various golf courses are used as the main cases in my work. The sites consist of golf holes selected based on shortcomings in vegetation structure. These locations are initially presented and analyzed. Field studies are then carried out in appropriate reference landscapes with the purpose to identify useful structures and groupings. The analyzed golf holes are then matched against the reference landscapes based on how well the habitat conditions, vegetation type, landscape character and vegetation structure match between the references and golf course landscapes. The general vegetation structure identified for each reference landscape is finally tested on the analyzed golf holes with the help of plans, elevations and text. Special focus is also put on the plant material development over time.
The conclusion is that experience rich cultural landscape like the references identified in this study are good and functional models of how golf courses can be enriched and how a golf clubs could work with vegetation design. Furthermore, the methodology used in this work is very applicable in other similar situations.
