Abstract
This study describes and reviews horse stable equipment from companies who builds and sells the equipment. In the study the companies various equipment was compared with regulations in the law of prevention of cruelty to animals. The purpose with this study was to find out if the companies stable equipment are approved according to the regulations within this area. The study used at five randomly picked companies.
This study showed that three of the five examined companies refered, in one way or another, to the law of prevention of cruelty to animals on their website. Unfortunately not any of the companies referred to todays existing law of prevention of cruelty to animals. Only three of the five companies distributed information about their sizes of boxes, but only two of those builds boxes who are big enough according to the law of prevention of cruelty to animals. Two of the five companies mentioned that they have tried to eliminate the risk of injury to the horse when they designed och built the stable equipment. None of the five examined companies had various dimensions of the bars to the different sizes of horses. The companies also did not write on their website that various sizes of horses need various sizes of boxes. All of the companies neglected to describe the horse's natural behaviour and needs. The result turned out to be that only two of the five examined companies were approved in this study.
The conclusion of the study is that the companies who builds and sells horse stable equipment should become a lot better on providing information about for example their sizes of boxes on their website. They should explain to the customer that there are rules about the dimensions dependent on which size of the horse is going to live there. They could inform their customers about todays existing law of prevention of cruelty to animals, instead of confusing the customers with old laws. In some of the cases the companies themselves should read what it says in these directions.
