Abstract

För att få mjölkproduktionen mer hållbar och göra den till en naturlig del i samhället samt att integrera den med miljön i största möjliga utsträckning har en projektgrupp på Wageningen Universitet i Nederländerna fått i uppdrag att göra en lösning som innefattar detta. Detta genom att se produktionen från olika synvinklar och inte använda traditionell filosofi när det gäller stallbyggnader för mjölkkor samt genom att se på alla inblandades faktiska behov. Projektgruppen har studerat kons, lantbrukarens, miljöns och även allmänhetens behov och utefter det skapat prototyper på mjölkgårdar för att göra produktionen mer hållbar.
Projektet har döpts till Cow Power, som till svenska kan översättas som Kraften från kon. För att få bättre insikt i projektet kontaktade vi universitetet som bjöd in oss med varm hand. Redogörelsen av projektet grundar sig främst på det material som sammanställts av projektgruppen samt personliga samtal vi hade med de som var involverade i projektet vid vårt besök på Wageningen Universitet. Syftet med att studera projektet var att få mer fördjupade kunskaper inom ämnet samt att kunna se mjölkproduktionen i Sverige från en annan synvinkel och undersöka om möjligheten finns att starta upp ett liknande projekt här. Krav på en mer hållbar och transparent mjölkproduktion kommer även att uppdagas även i Sverige så småningom och då är det bra att vara medveten om hur andra länder har tagit tag i problemet.
Att studera allmänhetens uppfattning om lantbruk och hur de tycker lantbrukaren och djuren ska ha det för att sedan ta med deras synpunkter i prototyperna gör att produktionen blir mer transparent. Detta kan leda till att även media får en bättre uppfattning om lantbruk och gör reportage om positiva saker istället för miljöförstöring och djurplågeri. I vår diskussion har vi granskat projektet mer kritiskt och dragit paralleller till Sveriges situation, vilka parametrar som skulle vara genomförbara i dagsläget och vilka som kräver mer utarbetning. Vår frågeställning var, förutom att få större insikt i projektet, komma till en slutsats gällande ett svenskt genomförande. Detta tror vi är fullt möjligt, om än inte på en praktisk nivå ännu så inom en snar framtid med rätt forskning kring ämnet, finansiellt stöd samt entusiastiska samarbeten mellan olika representanter från den gröna näringen.
Ett resultat på den mer personliga nivån är att vi har börjat tänka annorlunda inför framtiden när det gäller mjölkproduktionens hållbarhet. Att inte bara fokusera på den enskilda kon eller lantbrukaren utan på alla påverkade delar i produktionen vilket vi kanske inte skulle ha gjort på samma sätt innan.

In order to get milk production more sustainable and make it to a natural part of society, and to integrate it with the environment as much as possible, a group at Wageningen University in the Netherlands was given the task of making a solution that includes all this. Seeing milk production from different angles, and not using the traditional philosophies regarding stables for cows, as well as looking at all parts involved actual needs has been the ground concept of the project. The project team has studied the cow’s, the farmer’s, the environment’s and also the community’s different needs and according to these created four different prototypes for dairy production to make it more sustainable.
The project has been named Cow Power, which in Swedish would be interpreted to power from the cow. To get better understanding of the project we contacted the Wageningen University and were welcomed to talk to the involved in the project. The review of the project is based primarily on the material compiled by the project team and the personal discussions we had with the involved during our visit at the university. The purpose of studying the project was to obtain more in-depth knowledge in the subject and to get new influences on how a dairy barn is built in the Netherlands. Requirements for a more sustainable and transparent milk production will be of major importance also in Sweden eventually and then it's good to be aware of how other countries have addressed the problem.
To take the perception of the consumer regarding how agriculture, and how they would like it for the animals as well as the farmer, is an important part in developing the prototypes in order to make them as transparent as possible. This will result in media getting a more positive stand towards agriculture and lead to more positive media coverage instead of just reporting about for example animal cruelty. In our discussion, we examined the project more critical and draw parallels to the Swedish situation, which parameters can be possible to realize and which demands further developing. The question we wanted answered, besides getting deeper knowledge of the project, was to come to a conclusion regarding a Swedish realization. We think this would be possible, although not on a practical level just jet but in a near future, with the right research, financial support and enthusiastic cooperation between representatives from the green sector.
A result on a more personal level is that we have started thinking differently about the future in terms of milk production and sustainability. To not only focus in the individual cow or farmer but consider all involved parts of the production and their cooperation in a different way then we should have done before.
