Abstract

Tandproblem är vanligt förekommande inom fårbesättningar och är en av de vanligaste orsakerna
till utslagning av tackor världen över. Tandproblem kan bestå av allt från mekaniskt slitage till
sjukdomar och de kan försvåra tackans möjligheter att tillgodose sig sitt näringsbehov vilket kan
leda till viktförlust, försämrad fertilitet och nedsatt mjölkavkastning. Syftet med studien var att
undersöka om och i så fall hur tackors tandstatus påverkar produktionen med avseende på hull,
lammtillväxt och lammslaktkroppar. Med hjälp av data från 608 tackor i åldern tre till sju år utfördes analyser för att undersöka sambandet mellan tackors tandstatus och deras hullpoäng, lammtillväxt samt lammslaktkroppar. Resultatet visade att tandproblem är vanligt förekommande och ökar
med stigande ålder hos tackorna. Dålig tandstatus var i vissa fall associerad med lägre hullpoäng
och lammtillväxt men i andra fall förekom inga samband. Inga kopplingar sågs mellan tandstatus
och lammslaktkroppsdata. Slutsatser som kan dras är att tackornas tandstatus tycks påverka produktionen, om än i osäker grad, samt att ett gott management av djuren kan kompensera för en del
av den förväntade produktionssänkningen.

Dental problems are common in sheep herds and are one of the most common reasons for culling
ewes worldwide. Dental problems can include everything from mechanical wear to diseases and
they can make it difficult for the ewe to meet its nutritional needs, which can lead to weight loss,
reduced fertility and reduced milk yield. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether and,
if so, how the dental status of ewes affects production regarding body condition, lamb growth and
lamb carcass data. Using data from 608 ewes aged three to seven years, analysis was performed to
investigate the relationship between ewes' dental status and their body condition, lamb growth and
lamb carcass data. The results showed that dental problems are common and increase with increasing age of the ewes. Poor dental status was in some cases associated with lower body condition
score and lamb growth but in other cases there were no associations. No associations were seen
between dental status and lamb carcass data. Conclusions are that the dental status of the ewes
seems to affect production, although to an uncertain degree, and that thought through management
of the animals can compensate for some part of the expected production reduction.
