Abstract

Lussebäcken is a stream located outside of Helsingborg
in the south of Sweden. It passes straight through the
area of Östra Ramlösa which will become a new largescale
urban development and extension of the city.
As Lussebäcken currently does not have a sufficient
environmental status however, measures have to be made
to improve its water quality and prevent the stream from
becoming more polluted. This project is a design proposal
for the reconstruction of the stream and an investigation
of how landscape architecture can contribute to creating
resilient river and wetland restorations that balance nature
conservation with recreation. The research and design is
based on using explorative walking which has proven to be
a useful method for taking on such a large-scale landscape
transformation. The result show how landscape architecture
can contribute to river and wetland restorations in several
ways, such as using existing material and resources more
circularly, solving so-called “wicked problems”, and by
applying “orderly frames” on “messy ecosystems” to foster
a sense of care for a place.
