Abstract

Ledarskapet inom svenskt lantbruk kopplat till psykisk ohälsa är ett dåligt utforskat område. Att som lantbrukare ha ansvar för ekonomi, anställda, djurproduktion och familj kan vara betungande. Syftet med studien är alltså att undersöka hur lantbrukare mår i sin ledarroll. Utöver det utreds också deras inställning till att gå ledarskapsutbildningar samt att utvecklas i sin roll som ledare.

Det teoretiska ramverk som använts är contingency theory för att utreda vilka omvärldsfaktorer som bidrar till och påverkar lantbrukarnas ledarskap och mående. Utöver detta kommer behavioral theory att utreda hur lantbrukarna, genom sitt beteende, har formats till ledare. Till sist används de tre ledarskapsstilarna för att identifiera vilken kategori av ledare våra respondenter faller under.

Empirin har samlats in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer där tre lantbrukare har intervjuats per telefon. De slutsatser som kan dras är att man i det valda forskningsområdet kan se ett stort behov av insatser som är kopplade till psykisk ohälsa inom ledarroller. Denna teori bygger på kunskapsgapet och de få studier som finns att tillgå, tillsammans med den empiri som denna studie har samlat in från respondenterna. I intervjuerna framkommer även att lantbrukarna ser ett behov av ledarskapsutbildningar för lantbrukare och därmed har en positiv inställning till dessa.

Leadership in agriculture linked to mental illness is a relatively unexplored area. As a farmer, having responsibility for finances, employees, animal production and family can be burdensome. The aim of the study is therefore to examine how farmers feel in their leadership role. In addition, we want to investigate their attitude towards attending leadership training and developing in their role as a leader.

The theoretical framework used is contingency theory to investigate which environmental factors contribute to and influence the farmers' leadership and well-being. In addition to this, behavioral theory will investigate how the farmers, through their behavior, have been shaped into leaders. Finally, the three leadership styles are used to identify which category of leader our respondents fall under.

The empirical findings have been collected through semi structured interviews where three farmers have been interviewed by telephone. The conclusions that can be drawn through the empirical evidence are that we have chosen a research area where we see a great need for efforts linked to mental illness within leadership roles. This theory is built on the research gap and the few studies that can be found, but also through the answers received from the respondents of this study. The interviews also reveal that the farmers see a need for leadership training for farmers and thus have a positive attitude towards these.
