Abstract

The intention with this assignment is to investigate the impact light pollution has on
biological life. Man made light pollution is a pretty recent phenomena that has only been
noticeable for around one hundred to two hundred years. As cities, roads, harbors and other
infrastructures expand they bring with them street lights, spotlights and other illuminating
objects. These objects have a tendency to outshine natural light sources like stars and even
the moon, on which many animals rely on for navigation and other life functions.
Furthemore is the aim of this assignment to also arrange different measures for preventing
harm to animals and plants impacted by light pollution. Some species of animals and plants
cannot handle the impact light pollution has on foraging, navigation, breeding and and may
eventually decrease in population, hardier more invasive species may thereafter fill the
niche the previous creature held, lowering the amount of biological diversity.
The conclusion of this assignment is that humans can’t yet put an end to artificial light
pollution. To eradicate the harmful effects light pollution has on biological life would
require more research both at global and local levels. We can however minimize our output
and the damaging effects it has on biological creatures.
