Abstract

Företag publicerar årligen hållbarhetsrapporter för att redovisa sina hållbarhetsresultat. För att skapa legitimitet för sina hållbarhetsrapporter väljer en del företag att följa ett standardiserat ramverk utvecklat av organisationen Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) och för rapportering av växthusgaser följs Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protokollet. Syftet med uppsatsen är att titta om det finns en koppling mellan det rapporterade hållbarhetsresultat gällande koldioxidutsläpp och det ekonomiska utfallet för ett företag. För att mäta det ekonomiska utfallet så används olika nyckeltal.

Studien är av typen tvärsnittsstudie där företag som är aktiva i den svenska skogssektorn används som empirisk grund. Empirin samlades in från respektive företags års- och hållbarhetsredovisningar. Forskningsansatsen som används är den kvantitativa metoden där hypoteser sätts upp deduktivt från tidigare studier. Som analysmetod användes linjär regression för att analysera om det fanns ett samband.

Resultatet av studien visar att sambandet är svagt och inte signifikant. Det innebär att enligt metoden som genomfördes i denna uppsats verkar det inte finnas ett samband mellan finansiella prestationer och koldioxidutsläpp inom den svenska skogssektorn. Anledningen kan vara att sambandet blir förbisett eftersom en annan analysmetod eller typ av studie borde använts. Alternativet är att det helt enkelt är andra faktorer som har en större effekt på finansiella prestationer än koldioxidutsläpp, vilket leder till att koldioxidutsläpp inte får en signfikant innverkan.

Companies publish annual sustainability reports to report their sustainability results. To create legitimacy for their sustainability reports, some companies choose to follow a standardized framework developed by the organization Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and for reporting greenhouse gases, the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocol is followed. The purpose of study is to see if there is a connection between the reported sustainability results regarding carbon dioxide emissions and the financial outcome for a company. Different key figures are used to measure the financial outcome.

The study is a cross-sectional study where companies active in the Swedish forest sector are used as an empirical basis. The experience was collected from each company's annual and sustainability reports. The research approach used is the quantitative method where hypotheses are set up deductively from previous studies. As an analysis method, linear regression was used to analyze whether there was a relationship.

The results of the study show that the relationship is weak and not significant. This means that according to the method implemented in this paper, there does not seem to be a connection between financial performance and carbon dioxide emissions within the Swedish forest sector. The reason may be that the connection is overlooked because a different analysing method or type of study should have been used. The alternative is that there are simply other factors that have a greater effect on financial performance than carbon dioxide emissions, resulting in carbon dioxide emissions not having a significant impact.
