Abstract

För att Sverige ska uppnå de globala klimat- och miljömålen som har antagits har regeringen beslutat om en strategi för cirkulär ekonomi, vars syfte är att uppnå en mer effektivt resurs- och avfallshantering. Klimatpolitiska rådet menar dock att omställningstakten är för långsam och för att den ska öka behövs en mer utbredd cirkulär ekonomi i samhället. För att företag ska kunna implementera en cirkulär affärsmodell krävs samarbeten mellan företag, men samarbeten har även visat sig vara en av de barriärer som upptäckts för denna implementering. Syftet med denna studie är att utveckla en förståelse för hur företagets förmåga att samarbeta för en cirkulär ekonomi påverkas av företagets nätverksstruktur. För att undersöka detta görs en komparativ fallstudie av två organisationer som har cirkularitet integrerat i sina affärsmodeller. I studien upptäcks två typer av nätverksstrukturer som påverkar företagens förmåga att utveckla relationer till andra aktörer i nätverket. Den ena nätverksstrukturen ger företaget förutsättningar att skapa starka relationer vilket är gynnsamt för nätverkets effektivitet och innovation som är viktigt i en cirkulärt ekonomi. Den andra nätverksstrukturen domineras av en huvudaktör som har kontroll och påverkar nätverket vilket gör det möjligt att ställa krav och bidra hög kvalitet på det material som återvinns. Tillsammans med den utvalda teorin analyseras och diskuteras de likheter och skillnader som finns mellan fallen för att syftet med studien ska uppnås.

In order to achieve the global climate and environmental goals that the Swedish government has adopted, they have come up with a strategy for a circular economy. The purpose of this strategy is to achieve a more efficent use of resources and waste management. The change is moving too slow and a more widespread circular economy is needed in society. To implement a circular business model collaborations between companies are required, but collaborations have also proved to be a barrier for this implementation. The aim of this study is to develop an understanding of how a company’s ability to collaborate for a circular economy is affected by its network structure. To achieve this, a comparative case study by two organizations that have circularity integrated into their business models, is conducted. The study discovers two types of network structures that affect the companies’ ability to develop relationships in the network. The first network structure provides good conditions to create strong relationships, which is favorable for the efficiency and innovation in the network and important in a circular economy. The second network structure is dominated by a main actor who has control and influences the network. This makes it possible for the main actor to set requirements and contribute high quality to the recycled material. By analyzing and discussing the similarities and differences between the companies and their network structures the aim of this study is achieved.
