Abstract

Denna rapport består av fyra delar där fokus läggs på att belysa hinder och möjligheter i utemiljöer
vid äldreboenden. Bakgrunden till arbetet grundas i egna erfarenheter då jag ser en problematik
gällande brister i utemiljön vid äldreboende. Intentionen med ämnesvalet är att jag i en framtida
yrkesroll som trädgårdsdesigner ska kunna implementera den kunskap som arbetet givit mig för att
på så vis utforma utemiljöer som är mer anpassade för målgruppen.
I rapportens första del beskrivs begrepp och teorier med fokus på den valda målgruppen. I denna
del beskrivs målgruppen och vilka behov målgruppen har i anspråk på dess omgivning. Vidare
lyfts även praktiska men även specifika exempel på hinder som utemiljön kan ha och hur man kan
utforma utemiljöer för att motverka dessa.
Den andra delen av rapporten består av evidensbaserade modeller; fyra zoner av kontakt med
utemiljö (Bengtsson 2003) och nitton olika evidensbaserade miljökvaliteter (Bengtsson & Grahn
2014). Dessa modeller kommer användas i syfte av ett analysverktyg där dessa kommer att
tillämpas för att kunna titta på huruvida välanpassad och tillgänglig två olika utemiljöer vid
äldreboenden är.
Vidare i den tredje delen av rapporten görs en sammanställning av de resultat som de två olika
platsanalyserna gav. I denna del lyfts platsspecifika hinder och möjligheter som de olika
utemiljöerna har. Den fjärde delen av rapporten består av en diskussionsdel där det sammanställda
resultatet från platsanalyserna lyfts och jämförs med den forskning och litteratur som användes i
den första delen, den teoretiska bakgrunden.

This report consists of four parts where the focus is on highlighting obstacles and opportunities in
outdoor environments that belong to nursing homes, as the focus of the work is on the target group
who lives in nursing homes. The background to the work consists of own experiences and relatives
of people who live in nursing homes. I see problems that exists regarding shortcomings in the
outdoor environment that belongs to nursing homes, which in turn affects the resident's feeling of
security for the outdoor environment. If the outdoor environment does not promote a feeling of
security but there are areas that are perceived as unsafe, this feeling can in turn be the basis for
why the resident does not want to stay in this environment. Thus, the resident loses the healthpromoting effect that green environments bring.
These observations are the basis of the focus of this report. The intention with the choice of
subject is that in a future professional role as a garden designer be able to implement the
knowledge that the work has given me to design outdoor environments that are more adapted to
the people who lives in a nursing home.
The first part of the report describes concepts and theories with a focus on people who lives in a
nursing home. This part describes the target group and what needs they have for it’s surroundings.
Furthermore, practical but also specific examples of obstacles that the outdoor environment can
have and how to design outdoor environments to counteract these are also highlighted.
The second part of the report consists of evidence-based models; four zones of contact with the
outdoor environment (Bengtsson 2003) and nineteen different evidence-based environmental
qualities (Bengtsson & Grahn 2014). These models are used for the purpose of an analysis tool
where these are applied to be able to look at how well-adapted and accessible two different
outdoor environments at nursing homes are. Furthermore, in the third part of the report, a
summary is made of the results that the two different site analyzes gave. In this part, site-specific
obstacles, and opportunities that the various outdoor environments have are highlighted. The
fourth part of the report consists of a discussion part where the compiled result from the site
analyzes are highlighted and compared with the research and literature used in the first part, the
theoretical background.
