Abstract

Detta arbete gjordes som en del av en designtävling med målet att omgestalta Östra
kyrkogårdens minneslund i Malmö. Det som efterfrågades var en förbättring av platsen och de
omkringliggande ytorna, ur avseendena funktion, tillgänglighet och skötsel. Även inslag av ny
teknik var eftersträvansvärt. Området har ett stort historiskt och arkitektoniskt värde som
behövde tas i åtanke vid omgestaltningen. Arbetet påbörjades med en litteraturstudie som
involverade litteratur om kyrkogårdar och minneslundars utformning, internetsidor,
inspelningar samt dokument tillhandahållna från kyrkogårdsförvaltningen. Flera platsbesök
gjordes med ett frågeformulär i hand, byggd på Inger Berglunds (1994) studier av minneslundar
som underlag. Det ifyllda formuläret användes sedan tillsammans med litteraturstudien för att
konkretisera olika idéer i skissform. Skisserna gjordes för hand med blyerts och hjälpte till att
testa flera idéer för omgestaltning av platsen. De skisser som bäst fångade de efterfrågade
aspekterna valdes ut och blev basen för ett antal illustrationer och en planillustration. Det
färdiga gestaltningsförslaget visar ett antal förändringar av platsen som ger nya upplevelser
utan att göra större förändringar i det befintliga landskapet. Bland annat gestaltades en ny sittyta
ovanpå en kulle som ett komplement till minneslunden, nya träd planterades runt lunden för att
ge volym och en ny vit betongmur placerades ovanpå åsen, med idén att visa anhörigas
nedskrivna tankar som projiceras på muren via spotlights.

This study was made as part of a design competition with the goal of redesigning a memorial
grove in Malmö. What was requested was an improvement of the site and the surrounding
areas, in terms of function, accessibility and care. Elements of new technology were also
desirable. The area has a great historical and architectural value that had to be considered when
redesigning. The work began with a literature study that involved literature on cemeteries and
the design of memorial groves, different websites, recordings and documents provided by the
cemetery administration. Several site visits were made with a questionnaire in hand, based on
Inger Berglund's (1994) studies of memorial groves as a basis. The completed form was then
used together with the literature study to concretize various ideas in sketch form. The sketches
were made by hand with a pencil and helped to test several ideas for redesigning the site. The
sketches that best captured the requested aspects were selected and became the basis for several
illustrations and a plan illustration. The completed design proposal shows a number of changes
to the site that provide new experiences without making major changes to the existing
landscape. Among other things, a new seating area was designed on top of a hill as a
complement to the memorial grove, new trees were planted around the grove to give more
volume and a new white concrete wall was placed on the ridge, with the idea of showing
peoples' written thoughts projected on the wall via spotlights.
