Abstract

Syftet med denna studie har varit att undersöka hur två svenska kommuner som liknar varandra diskuterar och förhåller sig till identitet i sin stadsplanering. För att uppfylla syftet har Lunds kommun och Uppsala kommuns översiktsplaner samt kommunala styrdokument studerats och analyserats. Valet föll på Lunds kommun och Uppsala kommun då båda dessa kommuner är universitetsstäder. För att kunna identifiera hur dessa kommuner förhåller sig till identitet i sin stadsplanering har olika definitioner av begreppet identitet studerats, varför arbetet inleds med en teoridel avseende detta i det inledande kapitlet. Vidare beskrivs hur planeringen i historien sett ut och vilka idéer eller ideal som format samhället. Efter analys av kommunernas dokument så har ett antal identitetsbärande företeelser lokaliserats som beskrivs under respektive kommun. Analysen visar att identitet är något som främst indirekt är närvarande och diskuteras i den kommunala planeringen då båda kommunerna diskuterar olika aspekter av identitet som lyfts fram i arbetets teoridel.

The aim of this study has been to investigate how two similar Swedish municipalities discuss and relate to identity in their urban planning. To fulfill the purpose, two Swedish municipalities and their general plans and planning documents have been studied and analyzed. I chose Lund municipality and Uppsala municipality as there are similarities between these two municipalities, mainly since large parts of these two cities’ populations are consisted of students. In order to be able to identify how these municipalities relate to identity in their urban planning, different definitions of the concept of identity had to be studied. The study therefore begins with a theoretical part regarding identity, followed by a historical report of what ideas or ideals that have changed and influenced the society.
The analysis of the municipalities' documents located several identity-bearing phenomena. The result of this study shows that identity is something that is present and discussed in the municipalities’ urban planning. Both municipalities discuss different aspects of identity that have been explained in the theoretical part of this essay.
