Abstract

This report describes the concept “space”, as it is used in theory of architecture.
Theories regarding urban spaces, the space forming properties of trees, and the experience of these spaces, are also described. Ten places in Lund and Malmö are examined in case studies. A tree inventory is performed for each place, and the spatial properties of the place is analysed. The places are analysed with respect to the spatial structure of the whole place, but also with respect to the sequential experience of a person moving through the place.
