Abstract

Hörselnedsättning är en av de vanligare kroniska åkommorna hos människor. Individer som utsätts
för höga ljud kan få permanenta hörselskador. Eftersom hundar har bättre hörsel än människor och
kan höra högre frekvenser används tjänstehundar ofta för att exempelvis upptäcka potentiella faror
och det är därför viktigt att dessa hundar bibehåller en god hörsel. Syftet med detta arbete var att
undersöka hur hörseln påverkas hos hundar som ofta utsätts höga ljud och hur hundar påverkas av
hörselnedsättning.

Vid hörselnedsättning hos både människor och hundar kan beteendeförändringar och
koncentrationssvårigheter uppkomma. Hos hund har även svårigheter med lokalisering av ljud setts,
vilket kan medföra att drabbade hundar får svårt att kommunicera med sin omgivning. Hundar i
tjänst är en investering i tid och pengar, får hunden svårt att kommunicera med sin förare på grund
av hörselnedsättning blir det en begränsning i användningen som tjänstehund.

Forskning om hörselnedsättning hos hund är ett outforskat område och det kan vara svårt att
diagnosticera en hund med hörselnedsättning. Det skulle därför behövas ytterligare studier om hur
hundar påverkas av höga ljud och hur hundar bättre kan skyddas i situationer där de riskeras att

Hearing loss is one of the more common chronic conditions in humans. Individuals who are exposed
to loud noises may suffer permanent damage. Since dogs have a better hearing than humans and can
hear higher frequencies, dogs are often used for example when detecting potential dangers and it is
therefore important that service dogs maintain good hearing. The purpose of this work was to
investigate how hearing is affected in dogs who are often exposed to loud noises and how these dogs
are affected by hearing loss.

In the case of hearing loss in both humans and dogs, behavioral changes and concentration
difficulties can occur. Dogs may also develop difficulties in locating the sound, which can result in
difficulties in communicating with their surroundings. Dogs in duty are an investment in time and
money. If it became difficult to communicate with the dog due to hearing loss, there will be
restriction in the use as service dogs.

Studies on hearing loss in dogs is an unexplored area and it can be difficult to diagnose this in
dogs. Therefore more research on how dogs are affected by loud noises and how dogs can be
protected are needed.
