Abstract

The 1970s are the year when the forest's environmental values are brought into Swedish forest policy for the first time. This after attention was paid to environmental problems in connection with industrialization. However, the biggest changes took place in the 1990s, as it was when the forest policy had two equal goals, the environmental objective and the production target. From these changes, “the Swedish model” was developed for the preservation of biodiversity, which, with the help of formally protected forests, voluntarily allocated forests and retention forestry in production forests, must keep Sweden's forest policy equal. The retention forestry is the basis of this model and is the consideration that must be taken in all forestry measures. The Diocese of Linköping have high ambitions with their nature and environmental care work and, through this study, want to chart the scope of their retention forestry.
The purpose of this study was to find out and compile how extensive the general conservation is at The Diocese of Linköping´s final felling´s. And to see if there are any differences between two types of sales and the years 2015 and 2017.
The study has been carried out through a period of field inventory, where all the data on which the study is based have been collected. The work comprises a sample of 17 final harvesting fences, which are evenly distributed among the various sales forms and years.
The results show that the Diocese of Linköping leave 14 forest cubic meters per hectare, which in terms of percentage corresponds to about five percent of the gross volume from the harvesting. The area for consideration areas amounts to six percent of the gross area. According to an economic analysis made in connection with the study, the conservation that The Diocese of Linköping leaves is worth around 5,500 SEK/hectare.
