Abstract

Kronisk hepatit är en relativt vanlig diagnos hos hund och innebär ihållande inflammation i levern. Kronisk hepatit kan uppstå på grund av många olika bakomliggande orsaker, men i många fall är tillståndet idiopatiskt.

Leishmanios är en vektorburen, zoonotisk sjukdom som drabbar både människor och hundar runt om i världen. Leishmanios orsakas av parasiten Leishmania, vilken sprids genom bett från honor av sandmyggssläktena Phlebotomus och Lutzomia. Parasiten kan infektera de flesta organ i kroppen, vilket ger en stor variation på kliniska symtom.

Närvaro av Leishmania i levern har i vissa studier setts vara associerat med utvecklingen av kronisk hepatit hos hund. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie är att undersöka ett eventuellt samband mellan leishmanios och kronisk hepatit hos hund.

Flertalet studier har påvisat förekomst av granulom och inflammatoriska infiltrat i levern vid leishmaniainfektion hos hund. I dessa studier saknas dock statistiskt signifikanta korrelationer mellan histopatologiska förändringar och parasitbördan, nivån av leverenzymer i blodet eller kliniska symtom på hepatit. Den leishmaniainducerade hepatiten förefaller i flera fall vara ett subkliniskt tillstånd, men skillnader i immunsvar hos hunden kan ha betydelse för sjukdomsmanifestationen. Dock är antalet studier och individunderlaget i undersökta studier inom området begränsat. Mer forskning inom området behövs för att kunna fastställa orsakssambanden mellan leishmanios och kronisk hepatit hos hund.

Chronic hepatitis is a relatively common diagnosis in dogs and is characterized by persistent inflammation in the liver. It can occur due to many different underlying causes, but in many cases the condition is idiopathic.

Leishmaniosis is a vector-borne, zoonotic disease and affects both humans and dogs around the world. Leishmaniosis is caused by the parasite Leishmania, which is spread by bites from females of the sandfly species Phlebotomus and Lutzomia. The parasite can infect most organs in the body, causing a great variety of clinical symptoms.

The presence of Leishmania in the liver has in some studies been associated with the development of chronic hepatitis in dogs. The purpose of this literature study is to investigate a possible relationship between leishmaniosis and chronic hepatitis in dogs.

Several studies have shown occurrence of granulomas and inflammatory infiltrates in the liver during leishmania infection in dogs. However, in these studies there are no statistically significant correlations between histopathological changes and parasite load, amount of liver enzymes in the blood or clinical symptoms of hepatitis. The leishmania induced hepatitis appears to be a subclinical condition in many cases but differences in the immune response in the dog may be important for the manifestation of the disease. The number of studies and the number of individuals in investigated studies in the area is currently limited. More research in the field is necessary to be able to determine causal relationships between Leishmaniosis and chronic hepatitis in dogs.
