Abstract

Mängden el som produceras via vindkraftverk har stadigt ökat de senaste 20 åren. Detta arbete undersöker hur vindkraftens lönsamhet utvecklats under denna tid och i vilken utsträckning ägarna har kunnat påverka. Investering i vindkraft inkluderar ett påtagligt avkastningskrav, det vill säga att det föreligger en lönsamhet. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur lönsamheten utvecklats i fallverken samt koppla ihop detta med hur intervjuade ägare upplever sin möjlighet att påverka denna. Genom studien ämnar författarna skapa en ökad förståelse och kunskap kring hur vindkraftens lönsamhet utvecklats, samt i vilken utsträckning ägaren kunnat påverka.

En kvalitativ forskningsmetod har tillämpats som grund i denna studie, med komplettering i form av kvantitativa data. Insamlingen av empiri har utförts i form av en multipel fallstudie där fyra semistrukturerade intervjuer genomförts. Numeriska data har även samlats in från åtta vindkraftverk fördelade på fyra fallföretag. Den insamlade empirin har sedan tolkats efter de teorier som studien grundar sig på. En narrativ litteraturgenomgång har använts för att få en bredare och djupare förståelse inom ämnet. Resultatet av litteraturgenomgången visar att tidigare forskning inom området är bristfällig.

Studien grundas på investeringsteori i kombination med transaktionskostnadsteori. Den investeringsteori som är aktuell i denna studie är främst lönsamhet och olika mått som används för att bedöma denna. Studien fokuserar även på asset specificity, vilket är en del av transaktionskostnadsteorin.

Studiens vindkraftverk vilka byggdes tidigare än år 2011 haft en bättre lönsamhetsutveckling än de som byggdes i ett senare skede. Detta resultat framkom även tydligt från intervjuerna med ägarna. De som investerade innan år 2011 är nöjda med den uppvisade lönsamheten till skillnad från övriga som haft en högre förhoppning. Lönsamheten har i samtliga fall före avskrivningar och finansiella kostnader varit positiv under alla produktionsår. Ägarna upplever att förmågan att påverka lönsamheten är begränsad och endast möjlig på marginalen. Bortsett från val av försäljningsstrategi för den producerade elen, byggnationsplats samt tecknande av service- och försäkringsavtal bestäms lönsamheten huvudsakligen av energimarknaden.

During the last two decades, energy produced by wind turbines has increased at a constant speed. This study investigates how the profitability in wind power ventures has been affected and developed during the same period. Furthermore, this study investigates in what ways the profitability could have been affected by the owners of the ventures. When investing in wind power, there is an underlying demand for return. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the profitability has been in chosen cases and to interconnect this with the words from owners of wind turbines. The owners have been interviewed with the aim of discovering how they experience their own possibility in affecting the profitability. Through this study the authors aim to increase the knowledge and understanding about the development of profitability in wind power and in what ways the owner has been able to influence it.

In this study a qualitative research method has been used with completion of quantitative data. The collection of empiricism has been performed by a multiple case study, which includes four interviews and data from annual reports from eight wind turbines distributed in four different ventures. The collected empiricism has then been used in interpretations with the chosen theories of this study. The literature in the study has been reviewed with a narrative approach, to reach a wider and deeper knowledge within the chosen subject. The result of the review of literature shows an inadequate previous research within the subject.

The study is based on theories of investment and transaction costs. The chosen investment theory focus on profitability and various measures which are used to assess profitability. This study is furthermore focused on asset specificity, which is part of the theory of transaction costs. These theories have been chosen accordingly to the purpose of the study, which is to investigate profitability in wind power and how it has developed over time.

The results of the study show that the studied wind turbines built before the year of 2011 have had a remarkably good profitability. The same result has been discovered from the interviews, were the owners who invested before the year of 2011 is satisfied with their investment. The owners who invested after the year of 2011 had higher hopes of the profitability in their investment. The profitability of the studied wind turbines has however been positive, before consideration of financial costs. The interviewed owners have experienced that their ability to affect the profitability in their investments have been highly restricted. The profitability in wind power is strictly affected by the market and owners can only affect sales strategy of the produced power, where the machine is built and how the agreement of insurance and service is constructed.
