Abstract

Människor får möjlighet att ses och mötas i stadens offentliga rum. För att försäkra att staden på ett hållbart sätt planeras för dess invånare, behövs kunskap kring hur det sociala livet i offentliga rum fungerar och även hur vi kan bibehålla och utveckla dess funktion som mötes-, aktivitets- och uppehållsplats.

De offentliga rummen i en stad är till för stadens alla invånare oavsett kön, etnicitet, ålder, ekonomi osv. Dess användning skiljer sig genom tiderna och domineras idag främst av frivilliga aktiviteter dit bland annat sociala aktiviteter räknas. Det finns varierande sätt att ta det offentliga rummet i anspråk. Konflikten mellan föreskrivna och unika användningar genererar en social friktion som
främjar mer öppna och tillgängliga offentliga rum för fler grupper.

Genom litteraturstudier med utgångspunkt i det offentliga rummet studeras det sociala livet och dess förutsättningar. Syftet och centrala frågeställningar i uppsatsen är vilka faktorer och förutsättningar som avgör om och hur offentliga
rum tas i anspråk samt hur man i planeringsstadiet på ett antal olika vis kan arbeta för att skapa goda förutsättningar att utveckla fler sociala interaktioner på
offentliga platser.

Sociala interaktioner i stadens offentliga rum utvecklar en förståelse, respekt, tilltro för andra människor samt ligger dessutom till grund för en känsla av tillhörighet till staden. Det offentliga livet är identitetsskapande, integrerande och utvecklande.

Redan i planeringsstadiet bör det lämnas utrymme för kreativitet och alternativa sätt att ta de offentliga rummen i anspråk för att öppna för en bredare användning av fler grupper. Konkreta arbetsmetoder som inkorporerar aspekter av det offentliga livet behövs för att utveckla och förbättra möjligheterna att mötas i stadens offentliga rum. Detta kan inkludera strategiska placeringar av funktioner och framför allt att låta det offentliga livet komma före den fysiska miljön för att säkerställa diversitet och hållbarhet.

People have the opportunity to see and meet each other in the public spaces of the city. To assure that the city will be planned in a sustainable direction for its residents, knowledge is needed about how social life in public space works and also how we can maintain and develop its role as an assembling and activating place to stay.

The public spaces in a city are available for its inhabitants regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, economy, etc. Its usage varies over time and is today primarily
dominated by optional activities in which social activities are included. There are various ways to engage the public space. The conflict between prescribed and unique usage generates social friction that enhances more open and accessible public spaces for more groups.

Through literature studies based on public spaces are the social life and its conditions studied. The purpose and central issues in the paper are which factors and conditions that are determining whether and how public spaces are used and how you, in a number of different ways, can work to create good conditions to develop additional social interactions in public places in the planning phase.

Social interactions in the city’s public spaces are developing an understanding, respect and, trust in other people and are also the basis for a sense of belonging to
the city. Public life creates identity and are integrating and developing.

Already in the planning phase, room should be left for creativity and alternative ways to engage the public spaces, and open up for a wider usage by more groups. Concrete working methods is needed to incorporate aspects of
public life, to develop and improve the abilities of meetings in the city's public spaces. This may include strategically placing of functions and primarily allow
placing the public life before the physical environment to ensure diversity and sustainability.
