Abstract

The purpose of this retrospective case study was to determine which diseases are associated with thrombocytopenia in Swedish dogs. Records of 123 dogs with thrombocytopenia were evaluated. The most common cause was neoplasia-associated thrombocytopenia (32%). The largest proportion within this group was unspecified neoplasia. The second most common cause was infectious or inflammatory disease (26%). The most common diagnosis within this category was Ehrlichiosis. The third largest category was comprised of immunemediated diseases (15%). These were followed by non-inflammatory diseases (12%), depression of the bone marrow or anemia (6%), drug-induced thrombocytopenia or toxicity (5%), DIC (2%) and miscellaneous causes (2%).

Syftet med denna retrospektiva fallstudie var att undersöka vilka sjukdomar som
ses i samband med trombocytopeni hos svenska hundar. I studien ingick 123
hundar med trombocytopeni. Den vanligaste förekommande diagnosen hos hundar
med trombocytopeni var neoplasi (32%). Den största gruppen inom denna
diagnosgrupp utgjordes av ej närmare specificerade neoplasier. Näst vanligaste
orsaken var infektiösa eller inflammatoriska tillstånd (26%). I denna grupp var det
ehrlichios som var den vanligaste diagnosen. Den tredje största gruppen i
storleksordning var immunologiska tillstånd (15%). Därefter följde ickeinflammatoriska
tillstånd (12%), benmärgdepression eller anemi (6%),
läkemedelsinducerad trombocytopeni eller toxicitet (5%) och hundar med DIC
(2%) respektive oklar diagnos (2%)
