Abstract

1615 byggdes ett nytt slott, Rosendal, utanför Helsingborg, och 1756 byggdes slottet om och den gamla trädgården likaså. Under årens lopp kom trädgården sedan att förändras flera gånger. 2015 såldes slottet till Poul M Mikkelsen som inte bara rustar upp slottet utan även hela trädgården. Vad innebär då detta nya kapitel i Rosendals trädgårdshistoria? Hur förhåller sig trädgården till det historiska arvet på platsen samt till de historiska stilidealen för olika epoker?

Det här arbetet tar upp Rosendals nyanlagda trädgård från 2016-2017 inklusive Poul M Mikkelsens gestaltnings- och anläggningsprocessen Att måla en trädgård, samt tidigare trädgårdar som har funnits på Rosendal, från 1600-talet och framåt. Vidare innehåller arbetet en sammanställning av Sveriges trädgårdsideal från renässansen på 1600-talet fram till och med funktionalismen under mitten av 1900-talet. En jämförelse görs mellan den nya trädgården och de gamla som
tidigare funnits på Rosendal. Den nya trädgården jämförs även utifrån stilidealen under under ovan nämnda epoker för att på så sätt sätta in den i ett historiskt perspektiv. Även Rosendals tidigare trädgårdar sätts i relation till sina samtida ideal.

Rosendals trädgårdar har kontinuerligt utvecklats och förändrats efter rådande stils ideal fram till ungefär andra halvan av 1800-talet då trädgårdarna allt mindre kom att följa tidens ideal och kom att utvecklas allt mindre. Trots detta har Rosendals nya trädgårdar, under Poul M Mikkelsens omgestaltning, i viss mån tagit upp trädgårdarnas historiska arv och satt in det i en ny kontext. Vissa historiska arv, som bruket att rama in trädgården med en häck, faller sig naturligt på platsen för att skapa lä i trädgården. Andra element har återinförts efter studier av bilder över de tidigare trädgårdarna. Ytterligare några element är nya för
platsen och helt skapade utifrån Poul M Mikkelsens egna önskemål och tankar och har vuxit fram under gestaltnings- och anläggningsprocessen på plats vilket gör den nya trädgården till en unik plats med en kombination av både historia och moderna inslag.

In 1615 a new castle, Rosendal, was built outside of Helsingborg and in 1756 Rosendal went through a transformation according the style preferences of the time, and the garden was changed as well. After that, the garden has developed over the years. In 2015 Rosendal was bought by Poul M Mikkelsen and not only the castle, but also the garden, is currently going through a renovation. What does this new chapter in the garden history of Rosendal mean? How does the new garden relate to the historical gardens at Rosendal and what historical influences can be seen?

This essay dicusses the new garden at Rosendal, from 2016-2017, including Poul M Mikkelsens design and construction method To Paint a Garden, as well as old gardens at Rosendal, from 1600 until today.

The essay also includes a compilation of Swedish garden style preferences from the renaissance in 17th century to the modernism during the 20th century. A comparison between the new garden and the old gardens at Rosendal is made,
and the new garden is also compared with the old style preferences to put it into a historical context. The old gardens are also put in relation to the style preferences of the time.

The gardens at Rosendal have constantly been changing due to changing style preferences until the secaond half of the 19th century. After that the gardens developed less and followed the style preferences less and less. Despite this, the new gardens at Rosendal have, during Poul M Mikkelsens changes, in a way revived the historical heritage from the gardens and put it into a new context. Some historical heritages, like the use of hedges around the garden to stop the wind, is a natural element to the garden to block the wind. Other historical elements have been brought back after studying pictures of the historical gardens. Furthermore some elements are completely new to the gardens and made completely from Poul M Mikkelsens thoughts and wishes and has developed during the design- and construction process at site. This makes the garden unique with its combinations of history and modern elements.
