Abstract

Det här arbetet undersöker landskapsrepresentation
med fokus på stora landskap. Under
en resa längsmed transsibiriska järnvägen har
vi, med hjälp av olika dokumentationstekniker,
samlat in material i syfte att utforska för oss
oprövade sätt att representera stora landskap.
En metod för representation som skapar överblick
och samtidigt fångar den mänskliga upplevelsen
av landskapet eftersöks. Insamlingen

This paper examines landscape representation
with focus on large landscapes. During a journey
on the Trans-Siberian Railway we have
been using different techniques of documentation
to collect material with the aim of studying
for us untested approaches for representing
landscapes. We seek a method of representation
that creates dominion over and, yet at the same
time, capture the human experience of landscape.
The act of collecting has been central to this
project and the material presented in this paper
is mainly our own material collected on the trip.
We have been using two different approaches
for the collection of material, an intuitive one
and one that has been controlled by predetermined
rules. Initially we present a theoretical discussion,
which problematize the practice of large-
scale landscape representation. Thereafter
we discuss the different techniques of documentation
that have been used and their connections
to projects from other disciplines. Conclusively
we return to the discussion of landscape representation
and evaluate the different techniques
of documentation and their suitability for
large-scale landscape representation. We see a
potential in combining an intuitive approach to
collecting material with a predetermined one
in order to capture the multiple dimensions of
human landscape experience. Through the combination
of different techniques we see the possibilities
to explore other ways of representing
human experience of large landscapes than the
ones that we have known so far.
