Abstract

During each new project the landscape architect is overwhelmed by an infinite amount of new information that directly or indirectly has the potential to affect the results of the project. How does the landscape architect navigate and prioritize among this abundance of information? This paper explores various landscape architects and theorists thoughts and opinions about what they prioritize in their design process. The goal is to create a basis that allows for further studies
and discussion. This aims to generate a greater understanding and insight into the landscape architect's professional role and artistic freedoms. Through a literature review six different texts are examined and discussed by using the three categories chosen for this paper, the landscape architect's idea, site conditions and human requirements. The study results in the conclusion that
landscape architects may have different views on quite a lot but have the same mindset, that how the landscape architect prioritizes and relates to the design process is very personal and that the landscape architect is a profession which is highly influenced by the current context.
