Abstract

Höganäs kommun ligger i nordvästra Skåne.

Under 2009 anordnade kommunen Vision 09.

Men åsikterna går isär.

*********** Höganäs municipality is located in the southwest of Skåne. The town Höganäs formed out of two villages, a fishing village and an industrial community. During the 20th century, the town has grown together. But the result has been a divided and assorted town.

With its attractive location by Oresund and as part of the Oresund Region the municipality attracts new residents. Höganäs municipality’s goal is to go from 8 500 to 10 000 inhabitants in the town of Höganäs. Housing for 1 500 people will be offered through densifications in Höganäs and also by extending the town to the north.

In 2009, the municipality organized Vision 09, an exhibition of visions for the densification and expansion of the town. The visions are initiated both by the municipality but are also proposals from private developers.

The proposals presented will affect the future of the town in different ways and its identity. It therefore raises questions about the densification of the town and if you should build high or low. There is a desire to build high buildings to put Höganäs on the map and at the same time give people a view over the sea. Through City branding they want to spread a positive image of the town. But is this the right path to take?

Involved in shaping the future of Höganäs is the town’s politicians and officials. But their opinions differ. The municipal commissioner and member of the Moderate party wants Höganäs to become a modern city, while the social democratic opposition commissioner thinks it is important to preserve the town’s old identity as an industrial town.

In my master thesis I use characteristics from Kevin Lynch to describe the identity and what constitutes a good city. But the perception of a place may differ. As shown by the politicians. Edward Relph discusses identity from an inside and an outside perspective. Depending on how you are involved in one place, you will experience different things. which has consequences for the town to be built.
